The Burgomaster

I just bought the uncut Anchor Bay DVD of this cheesy thriller.  Back in the 1980s, a cut (R-rated) version was released in the U.S. on VHS.  The Anchor Bay DVD has fully restored the scenes that were edited out of the VHS release.

Willie Aames (from the Eight is Enough and Charles in Charge television series) proves what a terrible actor he is by playing the missing son of a wealthy American couple (Richard Bright from The Godfather and Karen Black!).  A television news reporter (Lisa Blount) and her camera man trace Aames (who wears a Mickey Mouse shirt throughout the movie) to a South American drug camp and try to help him escape.  Michael Berryman (   ) plays a vicious jungle native who decapitates and disembowels people with a machete.  There are also a bunch of other natives running around shooting people with poisoned darts.

In the best gore scene, a guy is torn in half by having his legs tied to two trees and pulled in opposite directions.

Euro actor John Steiner also has a small role and B-movie villain Richard Lynch shows up as a psychotic renegade ex-military guy (who was involved in the Jonestown massacre!?!?!?).

The widescreen print and sound (mono) on this DVD are high-quality . . . the movie itself is another story . . .
"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

wasn't this by the guy who did "cannibal holocaust"?  I liked it but not as much as that.

Yes.  It was Ruggero Deodato
