IRON MAN- Excellent movie.

Can't say it's gonna be the best superhero flick of the summer, as Dark Knight looks to have the better plot/acting, but as far as overall FUN factor, Iron Man is gonna be the best remembered.

Downey rocked it, as did Bridges.

And, I never really found Gwyneth Paltrow that attractive until I saw the movie today.

A fine way to break my boycott against anything Marvel. (Yes, X-3 initiated it. How ever did you guess?)

They did a good job, and I only hope they don't blow it with, say... a huge epic battle that is neither huge nor epic. (Yes, I'm still mad about X-3.)

Hopefully the success of this one sends a message that cheap quick s**t will get 70% of the audience, but taking the time and effort will get 90%...as soon as people finish Grand Theft Auto IV

I quite enjoyed this one.  I generally agree with everything said so far. 

The only thing I'm worried about for the sequels is the Stark character.  He's been a totally unlikeable douchebag for DECADES in the comics, in fact I was greatly hoping he would get killed off in World War Hulk - but of course, he's too popular for that. 

Anyway, they're going to introduce his greater flaws (alcoholism, maybe his extreme patriotism, etc), and I'm wondering if my empathy for him as character can survive it.  Oh well, at least I quite like Terrence Rhodes, who will be War Machine in the sequels.

I though the fight at the end was great! I just wish we could have seen more of what not only the Iron Monger could do but the Iron Man suit. A little more action before the final fight would have been splendid.

But still the character work was great!

I loved this movie, and to those who saw the ending, watch Incredible Hulk as well [which was also good].  Looks like Marvel Studios is taking more creative control.

But still, this movie is great for really one reason only: Robert Downey Jnr.  He fit the bill perfectly and lets face it, plot wise it wasn't anything too fancy, but his charisma is very much the driving force of this movie and is fantastic.  I don't know Iron Man canon too well apart from the cartoons on TV with the Mandarin, so the 'bad guy' in this one seemed fairly stale and relatively boring, which is why the fight scene wasn't too interesting at the end.

Sure more action could be had, but I was having so much fun with the small moments, like learning to fly, that the film passed pretty smoothly overall for me. 

Definitely one of the better comic book movies of late, and certainly a lot more accessible for non-comic inclined folk.

I saw this on DVD yesterday and really enjoyed it.  I felt it was perfectly cut and to the point.  As for Downey, awesome, plain and simple.  I always thought he was a great actor anyhow.  Good to see him make such an impessive comeback.  The supporting cast was awesome.  Bridges was wicked  although my one gripe was I wish they did more with his character.  Even if the flick suffered in the villain department, it was nearly flawless.

I liked this movie a lot.  As a lifelong Iron Man fan, I'm glad this hero finally found a way to get noticed. 

Although it could have used a smidgen more in the action department, Downey's performance really made up for it, turning Tony Stark into a memorable, and entertaining character.  Plus Paul Bettany's voice performance as Tony's computer, Jarvis, was a nice touch. 

I've also heard that John Favreau has listened to the complaints of the climax being weak, and admits that at the time he wasn't too skilled at filming action sequences.  The action sequences in Afghanistan were actually filmed after he did the climax.  Anyway, he plans to rectify this problem in the sequel.

I bought the double-disc DVD and watched it last night.  If I were to give this movie a report card, I still think I would grade it somewhere in the "B" range (as I mentioned when I started this thread).  The lack of a top-notch IRON MAN villain (like The Mandarin or The Freak) and the weak battle at the end prevented this movie from reaching its potential.  But the casting was excellent.

They've been talking like they're leavning towards doing the Mandarin. I know that Jon Favreau has stated that they'll more than likely be doing The Demon in the Bottle story line.

Well, The Mandarin seems like a rather hokey villain in the marvel universe.  I really don't know how they're going to incorporate a guy who uses 10 alien rings that he just found, but maybe if they change the character enough to fit in the context of the films, it might work.

However, I think there's much more potential in another old nemesis of Iron Man's...a group of weapons specialists called Advanced Idea Mechanics, or A.I.M.  Also, in the comics, there's a rival industrialist of Stark's named Justin Hammer, who uses all sorts of despicable methods to get what he wants.

I suspect the Mandarin will show up in the sequel.  They did mention an organization that uses the name "the Ten Rings" in the first Iron Man movie.

Gotcha.  I read, probably a rumor or something, that they wanted him for the first, but felt that for a first picture, doing the route with Bridges was a better fit. 

Any word on if War Machine's in this.  They alluded to it in the first, so I'm hoping.
