No he wasn't on the ride, he jumped 2 six foot fences with a friend and past many signs that said "DANGER" - "KEEP OUT" etc to retrieve a hat he lost on the ride earlier.

He just became a Darwin award canidate.

I'm sorry for his family, but that was stupid.

I usually travel down to the Atlanta area about once a year or so.  I have family down there and it gives me an excuse to go spend about 8 hours wandering and drooling in the Fry's Electronics in the Alpharetta area.

A trip to Atlanta would not be complete without a trip to Six Flags.  It's a park that I have grown up with, and one thing that has always amazed me is just how close some of the roller coasters come to the various people walking around.  Almost all of the coasters have you coming extremely close to the people walking around the park, normally at high speeds.  I've always thought that it all it would take is a stupid bastard to do something ignorant for a disaster to happen.

This kid proved me right.  I guess it's just Darwinism at it's best, as Cheeze said.

It's a little cold to refer to a teenager's death as Darwinism.

Yeah, I'm certain we all used the best judgement when we were 17...

...it's basically called 'damn lucky we're alive today'.

Two six foot fences? Like that's going to keep a 17 year old out. :lookingup:

What's really terrible about this other than the kid's death; is the fact that even though he jumped over two six foot fences  clearely labled 'keep out', i'm sure there is going to be a wrongful death suite before this is over...

Where'd this happen again, (paper shuffling), America?  Yeah, lawsuit.  Seriously though, Who goes through that trouble for a hat?  If it's that important, leave it at home, or do as they tell you befor the ride and TAKE IT OFF!

well, actually, male kids in ANY days.  Seems as if we were born with that "Hey, y'all, watch this!!" gene.

When I was that age, guys like that used to drive me nuts. I was brought up to be careful and respect boundaries, and there was always some other kid willing to jump over fences, open doors or whatever, and ready to mock those who refused.

I was immediately reminded of a kid a few years ago who climbed into the wolf enclosure at the Toronto Zoo (I have no idea why), and the kid in my hometown who got his kicks climbing tall things until he fell off the side of a feed mill two or three years ago.

One of the most important things to teach kids is that fences and signs are always there for a reason. I live a short walk from a lake, a highway and a railroad track. My daughter is learning to respect boundaries.

I've been following the story in the local paper for as long as the local paper was publishing articles about the story. And one of the last stories was questioning whether he was trying to get his hat or not. The reason he was there, where he was not supposed to be, was more inconclusive than that.

Actually, there are alot of people to feel sorry for in this accident. The boy's family, of course. The person who had to tell the family that their son was dead. And the person or persons who had to clean up the mess that was made. But, I do not feel sorry for the boy. Two six-foot fences with warning signs on them, should have told him something.
