Yes, composer Howard Shore (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, ED WOOD, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMB, SCANNERS) has turned David Cronenberg's version of THE FLY into an opera.

maybe it will be a modern masterpiece (I really like Shore's music), but for some reason this reminds me of a Peter Griffin Family Guy aside:
"This reminds me of the time they made an opera outta Croneberg's THE FLY!"

I'll arm wrestle this red-neck lout.
I'lll make the bones in his arm stick out!

RONNIE: When you went through, something went wrong!
BRUNDLE: Well dear, hold that thought - While I sing myyyy sooooong!
If you're an Andy Milligan fan there's no hope for you.

I love Shore's collaboration with Ornette Coleman on Cronenberg's NAKED LUNCH score.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

I heard something about that on the way home from work today. Cool, but it's still hard to imagine somebody coming up with that idea, and then selling it to other people.

Love the picture of Brundlefly crawling across the stage  :teddyr:

Finally, a show based on a movie that I would see.

What? Now I like some Opera and I like The Fly ... I also like milk and orange juice, just not together.

I don't know why opera and plays can't get original ideas any more than they do, which is rarely.

Yep, most big musicals these days are based on successful movies: The Producers, Hairspray, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Spamalot, Momma Mia, etc. And that's not even counting the ones based on Disney movie versions of classic tales: Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Tarzan, Mary Poppins, etc.

I would like to see the musical Gray Gardens, based on the bizarre Maysles Brothers documentary about Jackie Kennedy's reclusive relatives Big and Little Edie Bouvier Beale.

I've never been an opera fan, but a certain Brundle fly could change that. This looks really cool, I hope they're bringing it over here at some point.

Thankyou for alerting my attention to this and for posting the pictures!
