These kids today ... why I'd like to see one actually have to get up and change the channel or adjust the volume.

Oh come on, that's unfair.  We know where the 'up' volume button is!  :teddyr:

:teddyr: :teddyr:

Up until 2005, I had an old push button TV and some young friends of mine asked me where the remote for the TV was. I said there wasn't one and they asked me how I change the channel and volume: I said I get up and do that.

They went  :buggedout: :buggedout: :buggedout: :buggedout: on me. I now have a remote control TV.

Well we started out with National Geographic and pictures of topless African natives with their long flat boobies.

A friend and I got in trouble for "Compiling" our own "Playboy" from NG and taking it to school when we were in about the 5th grade. The principal and assistant principal had us in this room and the assistant was absolutely livid. I think he thought we were some serial rapists in the making, he was absolutely going off, and we just couldn't stop laughing. Finally the head Principal said something to the assistant about how I can tell it was just a joke, a couple of bored kids that think they are comedians, BFD. Shortly thereafter the school took out a bunch of the NG magazines from the library because kids realized there were boobies in them, presumably from our, as we called it, "Polish Playboy".

Hey, I spent most of my childhood in the 60"s. TV wasn't in color until I was 11. I could buy a 16oz Pepsi (in a glass bottle) and a candy bar for quarter.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

The first video game system that I actually had was the Atari 5200.

My family didn't have the money to get an Atari 2600 but I got a 5200 for my birthday.

The joysticks sucked on it but it was cool to have almost arcade perfect versions of games  instead of the (sometimes) crappy Atari 2600 versions.

I was in the same boat; my family couldn't afford the Atari when it first came out (expensive little sucker at that time).

Much later (like much later; in the early 90s) I bought a 7800 on closeout for about $35. Now that was cool. Not only did it play the 7800 games with much better graphics, it also played the older 2600 games but made them look better. Two of my favorites on it were Xenophobe and Xevious.

I have some classic arcade game remakes on my arcade if anybody wants to play them (I downloaded them from other sites; they're not my games :tongueout:).

Our first was a Telstar, it played 4 games, all pong variants. IIRC, it was pong, tennis (pong with two blocks on your side of the screen for each player), Hockey (Pong with two blocks, one was a goalie and one was a forward per player), and another that was "vertical pong", with both players having their block on the bottom, bouncing the ball UP. It was black and white, and ran off of batteries IIRC.

BTW, the best Atari 2600 Game ever was "Spacemaster X-7", followed closely by "Reactor"

I remember in 1972/3 standing in line to play this really cool new video game called PONG. It was mesmerizing.

My personal favorite 2600 game has always been Yars' Revenge.

I never got into that one myself, though it certainly has seemed popular. I do have it, or an emulation of it, on an Atari keychain joystick (may be the paddleball one); a keychain that you can plug into a standard TV set and play 3 old Atari games (ahem...with original graphics quality).

Amazing, I have that game at my grandparent's house.  I'm not calling you old that's just where my family keeps our 2600.

Games....
I recall a game...it was called Kick the Can...kinda like a midnight version of Hide and Seek...which included the arcane line..."OLLY OLLY OXEN FREE!!"
Also ...a game called Red Light Green Light . The rules: One person would stand at on end of the field, while the others stood at the other end. the sole person would holler "GREEN LIGHT!" and everyone would start running. Then He would yell "RED LIGHT!" and the runners would have to freeze-like statues in whatever goofy looking position you were at while running. This nonsense would continue untill one of the runners reached the end of the field. Whoever got the the end first, won! Then it was his turn to do the Red Light,Green Light honors. It was  really  fun...

Don't look at me like that, you kids! It WAS FUN.

No...really...it was....!

My brother, cousins and I played alot of Kick the Can when i was a kid, sometime we would up the fun factor by arming ourselves with bamboo sticks, which was fun, but a little brutal.
I tried to teach my own kid how to play, but she just looked at me with pity...

When i was a kid, we didn't need an on-screen guide or even a TV guide - we only got two channels.  Anyone over the age of 4 had the TV schedule memorized.

Now I just bought a universal remote control that probably has 10 times more computing power than the Apollo lander.
