Most of the bands you mentioned, Freep, are famous for their drummers. Are you a drummer or is it just coincidence?

Several are also famous for their bassists :)  I'm a bassist

Here comes the zombie, Portraying me."

Deena

I know neither are bands but Tori Amos and Ani Difranco are my favorites.  I felt I had to add a female perspective here.  Also bands I truly dig are Sublime, Phish, Smashing Pumpkins, and my local favorite, Blue Moon Revue (http://www.bluemoonrevue.com) Check them out!

Deena
"Life is a B-movie it's stupid and it's strange, it's a directionless story and the dialogue is lame, but in the he said she said sometimes there's some poetry"
Ani Difranco 'Hell Yeah'

Vermin Boy

Frank Zappa ("Cheepnis" could be this site's theme song)
"Weird Al" Yankovic
Devo
They Might Be Giants
Deadbolt
The Bonzo Dog (Doo-Dah) Band
Barnes & Barnes

Also, I'm not sure I'd put them in my "all-time" list quite yet, simply because I only got into them relatively recently, but The Cramps and Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers are currently in heavy rotation in my car CD player.

The Honn

Pearl Jam, Metallica, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Iron Maiden, Queen, the list goes on.

Oh yeah, Fozzy

my two daughter's favorite band is "Weird Al" Yankovic.

Mofo Rising

I listen to music across the board, but here are bands I find myself listening to most often (meaning they have more than one song I listen to regularly):

Radiohead
Tool
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Fantomas/Mr. Bungle/Faith No More
Violent Femmes
P.J. Harvey
Prick
DJ Shadow
Soundgaren
Portishead
Leonard Cohen
Sigur Ros
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

StatCat

Probably a-ha- I have amased a pretty large collection of every album, all of the rarer tracks + remixes, solo efforts from the band members, and lots of different live cds (15 different live ones I think) all of which are bootlegs of course. I'm also into punk and 60s music. So it's all a strange mix.

Dano

That doesn't make you a dork!  TMBG isn't my favorite band but they write good stuff with smart lyrics that put most popular music to shame.

Ever hear the Pogues?  Irish folk meets punk rock.  They're my favorite.  Also great lyrics, but you have to read them off the CD cover because you're not gonna make out anything from perpetually drunk and slurring lead singer Shane MacGowan.
