A very funky movie, but I'm surprised that neither Andrew nor Nathan opted to do the remake, just for comparison's sake. It's much more icky.

I didn't like the remake, it looked even more low budget than the first one.

I've heard the remake left out all the nudity and the creepy fishman rape scenes, which I thought was half of the appeal of the original.

Squishy

Nathan's review mentions that the truly nasty scenes were tacked on after the fact; as time goes on, that sort of crap will become harder to do. Perhaps Corman just wanted to exploit the title; that would explain the unjustifiable remake of "Piranha."

(While involving less actual nudity, I find the clumsy "symbolism" in crap like "The Slumber Party Massacre"--also supposedly directed by a woman--to be more offensive, simply because it's so obvious and silly.)

Watch If You Dare: in the sick, no-budget Ron-Jeremy-featuring horror-comedy "They Bite," there appear not only a couple of "Humanoid"-style attacks--complete with a rubber suit that's clearly coming apart in the brine--but a black-and-white parody-trailer for something called "Invasion of the Fish-F***ers." You have been warned.

Yes, I should have mentioned "They Bite" in my review -- no film is a complete waste if it inspires something as wittily sleazy as "They Bite."

I missed this thread the first time around.  Sorry that I didn't add my comments here.

I haven't seen the remake.  Apparently, I don't want to.

You should, if for no other reason than to compare the two films. BTW, it was made for Roger Corman Presents on Showtime a few years ago, which produced a few semi-decent, sleazy movies.
