No.38 - Chris Benoit - Of course there are going to be some who think that Benoit should be wiped from the records of wrestling history (WWE is still editing his matches and appearances out of DVDs and their OnDemand service), but before the nightmare outside of the ring, the guy was a consummate professional, a total work horse, a skilled athlete, a mentor to a lot of the younger wrestlers, and one of the toughest $2 steaks to walk through the ropes.

I was wondering if anyone would dare mention Benoit. I have to wonder whether things would have turned out different if he hadn't used the flying headbutt ending move--maybe he wouldn't have so severely damaged his brain that he was susceptible to whatever delusions caused him to murder his family. Not trying to excuse his actions, mind you; I just wonder.

Thing is, I liked Benoit.  After that weekend, even people who were friends with him were like, "Those actions weren't the man I knew.  I would've left my kids with him if I needed a babysitter."  So much has come out since he died, I don't think they really know what it was, if it was psychological problems, too many concussions, steroids, or a combination of all three.

A pure legend that spanned across decades in the sport.  Also the founder of the once great AWA.

No.43 - The Great Muta - The high-flying demonic kabuki actor. He means to Japan what Ric Flair means to us. I used to love watching Muta in the ring when I was a kid. The high point of every match? The old "green mist in the face" attack he'd always pull on his opponent at a key point in the match. Awesome.

As Mean Gene Okerlund once said, there's only one Mad Dog Vachon. There's really nobody else quite like him, especially not in his wrestling heyday.

Sadly he never really got past midcard in WCW.  Part of the many reasons why the organization tanked, misuse of talent so Hogan and his buddies could get more ring time.

47.)

The Million Dollar Man

I met him once, when he spoke in my hometown a few years back. Got a one-on-one interview with him. Nice guy, and an entertaining speaker. He started up a Christian ministry after wrestling, and basically travels around talking about how messed up his life got while playing football and wrestling, and how he cleaned up his act afterward. One of the local churches paid to bring him in for a youth event. He's pretty funny, and has some good stories.

Don't I know it brother. Sounds an awful lot like TNA right now... wonder if it has anything to do with Vince Russo being the head writer.  :tongueout:

48. Jushin "Thunder" Lyger

My 3rd favourite wrestler of all time behind Bret Hart & Shawn Michaels, Jushin Liger is a fantastic all rounder and really elevated japanese wrestling with his inventive style and technical matches. He can also "sell" anything and "put over" anyone.

His entrance music is freakin' sweet too...

I'm sure many pieces of furniture have been ruined from young boys immitating his superfly leap in the 80s.

50. "The Clawmaster" himself. The one and only BARON VON RASCHKE. Competed in the WWF, AWA and NWA and contended for world titles practically everywhere he went. Had a memorable MSG bout with Bruno Sammartino. And who could ever forget him teaming up with the wild and crazy Mad Dog Vachon? Der clawmaster was simply one of the best.
