Yet another reason I avoid the stores on this day.  Damn shame.

Methinks we need a national timeout on this consumer buying season.

Pardon my cynicism, but I think it should read "keeping lawsuits and insurance premiums down is our top priority".

It is amazing the anemic bulls**t that comes out of the mouths of spokespeople in the wake of tragedy.

Walmart can't take the blame for this, as any other retailer cannot.

There are just people spread around, as much as I would like to believe that most everyone has a conscience, who are nothing more than animals on a feeding frenzy their entire damn lives.

Emergency workers are working, against any hope, to save the man's life, and people are rushing past to try to get bargains.

I have gone into a rushing crowd of kids coming out of a junior high at day's end, carrying a display to setup (much to my co-worker's horror), having dealt with crowd control before and knowing that people will move aside when faced with the potential of being knocked down themselves.

But, goddammit, breaking down doors? Trampling people lying on the floor? Those aren't people; and I cannot accurately describe what they are.

Yes, salad.

Wal-Mart worker dies after shoppers knock him down
NEW YORK – A Wal-Mart worker was killed Friday after an "out of control" throng of shoppers eager for post-Thanksgiving bargains broke down the doors at a suburban store and knocked him to the ground, police said...

My sentiments exactly. What the hell were these people thinking?   There isn't a damn sale in the world that is worth one life. Aside this tragedy, other people were rushed to the hospital including a 28 year old pregnant female.  It seems every year things get more insane with these shoppers.  I recall last year (for the life of me I can't recall if it was Black Friday) when Playstation 3 went on sale.  I can't recall all the specifics but some asinine manager at Walmart came up with a cutesy idea to have a fun race for tickets to buy the system.  One guy ran into a pole and received a concussion among other injuries.

Just a heads up, this topic was merged with a similar thread I started in the "weird news stories" board.  Either way, the story is messed up.  Sadly it will probably be swept under the carpet by Walmart and the media.

It's the petty selfishness that amazes me. You can almost explain the stampede. A crowd gets moving, with everybody pushing from behind, and it's a hard thing to stop. It's happened before. The 1979 Who concert tragedy in Cincinnati comes to mind.

But to carry on shopping? That would have been the last thing on my mind at that point. And to start b***hing because the store was closing - due to an on-the-job fatality you were involved in - is just insane. Waiting in line since yesterday vs. being trampled to death......gee, who do you think deserves some sympathy? Morons. Petty, selfish, obnoxious morons.

Then again, I've always maintained that people willing to wait in line longer than a couple of hours for anything are morons.

This is why I never go out on Black Friday if I can help it. And not to pigeonhole every resident of Long Island but.... "What the f*ck is wrong with you people?!"

Also, I love how they list the "big deals" that Wal-Mart had in this news story. Nothing like a little death to drag in some more customers eh?

Being as I work at Wal-Mart and was scheduled to work at 4:30 AM, I had no choice but to be there.  Damn this department manager position!

OMFG!  I wonder if this is over shopping wars or is there something much more deep involved between these two guys.  Either way, another 'wonderful" Xmas shopping story.

Trampled to death by rampaging Wal-Mart shoppers... That's one hell of an epitaph.

Sadly, most of the news stories this Holiday have been violent and sickening.  Let's take a cue and remember to be patient and civil with one another.
