Preacher is an awesome series, and I quite enjoyed Y The Last Man [though the ending left me a little cold]

I just read THE BUMMER TRILOGY by Evan Dorkin as well as a few other obscure titles.
"I'm a man too, you know! I go pee-pee standing up!"

ToyMan

Hammock Rider

Bone
Tom Strong
Thieves and Kings
MouseGuard
100 Bullets
Fables
Wanted
Y: The Last Man
Nexus
Badger
From Hell
Bacchus
Sandman
Sandman Mystery Theater
Maus( That's NOT for kids)
Ronin
Criminal

Some of these do have superheroes but you should read them anyway because they are both fun and smart. If you just plain don't like superheroes, thats a matter of taste but don't dismiss them all as childish just because you've only read childish comics. A good story is a good story regardless of genre. Would you call The Dark Knight kid stuff?
Jumping Kings and Making Haste Ain't my Cup of Meat

Living with Zombies

Great little comic. Zombies take over the city of Evansville, In and they only ones who can stop it are two slacker idiots with a love for comic books.

It is drawn (primarily) by a local guy Matt Billman and is set in my hometown. There was another guy who worked on the comic as well. He did the more highly detailed drawings. But he moved and never got around to the work so Billman went ahead and took over the drawing as well as his job of writing. My local comic book dealer is also in the comic. The drawing you see of his store is what it looks like in real life! A lot of the buildings are what you can see in the comic.

It is all online so you can read through the ten issues (so far)

i work at a bookstore, and every now and then someone will be like "i was very offended to see that you have comic books in your holocaust section!", to which we can only shake our heads and say "i'm sorry to hear that, but did you, perhaps, look inside those comic books to see why we might have put them there?"...

At least it isn't a pop-up book.
