OK, so the kid has a sense of humor, , but it's sad that the joke had to be at another human being's expense.

Weell.. I have to go with Houdini on this one when he said, "I do not hesitate to say that in ninety causes of a hundred, the man who asks for alms on the street corner is a cheat and a fraud.  If the public would take my advice and absolutely refrain from giving to beggars, this nuisance might soon be done away with.  If the beggar no longer found his calling profitable, he would soon go to work or find some other activity." Now, I'm not endorsing mocking people, mind you, but still...

Course, all that being said, I've been know to give a few extra dollars to people on the street who've asked, because I'm easy to manipulate. 

When I was living in the Washington, DC area, the "Will work for food" sign was popular for a while. One time a Washington Post reporter hit the streets to try to find out if any of them actually would, you know, work in exchange for food. A couple did, but mostly he got cussed out for asking them to do some work.
