Ah, Halloween is my absolute favorite time of year! The chilly air has that nice bite to it and it's cheese galore on TV. Not just lots of horror films, but those commercials with the surf-guitar riffs and organ music. And of course what B-movie fan would I be without an All Hallow's Eve marathon? I'll watch my usual standards-

Halloween 1 &2
Night Of The Living Dead
A Nightmare On Elm Street
Day Of The Dead
Evil Dead 1 & 2

And maybe I'll rent up a few unfamiliar flicks.

It looks like Turner Classic Movies is going to have a good selection this month, they've even got  a section on what to do if your child is possessed:

It'll be interesting to see what they've done with London After Midnight, apparently they've tried to reconstruct it entirely from stills!

Kind of bizzare, but I'll set my VCR.

I know my DVD of Eight Legged Freaks (widescreen version, of course) will be arriving around that time.  So it'll be a must see.

I remember one halloween a few years back I was horrified to find absolutely NO horror or sci-fi flicks anywhere on the tube. Still gives me shivers. I haven't checked out what's on this year tho I try to stick with movie stations only since i absolutely abhore commercials and censoring. The the ones I like in general are listed here Halloween flicks

These are the kind I like to see, don't often see on tv at halloween..oddly enough. How about everyone list a movie (or more) that aren't always the obvious picks ,  (like The Shining or The Omen). Doesn't have to be scary, just a good horror, thriller or sci-fi.

A TOP 5 LIST, not of the "best", just of films you'd recommend that aren't mainstream popular and everyone hasn't watched 12 dozen times. They don't all have to be obscure, "the Omega man" could even count since it's not the kind of film that everyone has seen but most have heard of. (shocking but true)

It'll give me something to think about when I go rent.

You know what Halloween movie I can't get enough of?  It's silly, because it's a totally non-violent kid movie, but it never fails to crack me the hell up from beginning to end.  The Worst Witch - showed a lot in October during the 1980s on HBO.  Tim Curry is a Wizard at a witch school (basically Harry Potter's school on a low budget - right down to the broom flying instructor with the WW I flak helmet).  Check out Fairuza Balk in the lead - she was a cute little kid before hitting puberty and getting typecast as a shrill skank.

I think Mrs. Garret from the Facts of Life played in a dual role here as the headmistress of the school and a hillbilly witch who wanted to take over the school.

I knew Harry Potter was a Worst Witch ripoff!

I also like The Monster Squad, about a bunch of kids that team up to fight the classic Universal monsters. Where's the DVD, I ask? Also Fright Night, The Omega Man and Clue. Yes, Clue.

The Monster Squad - Classic!

I was like twelve years old and even I knew there was no way that blonde was a virgin.

Lesson learned:  If you write a letter in crayon with backwards S's imploring the "Army guys" to come save you from monsters, the 10th Mountain will be there in about three days.

Great Dano, that's one song I should have added to that thread awhile back about annoying songs. The "anything can happen on halloween" sung by Tim Curry is my nightmare, saw the movie once but the song lives on forever..argh!

Your dog can turn into a CAT!

... well, I forget the rest of the lyrics, but I know the wizardly special effects during the song look like they were done by a middle school AV club. LMAO!!

Wait, was this TIm Curry singing in front of a psychadelic backdrop? My friend and I caught this on TV and couldn't find out what it was. Thanks, Dano!

This year I thought about trying something a little away from horror but still tied in a little bit. Here are my obvious choices:

Rocky Horror Picture Show- Tim Curry is really funny and this disturbs all my friends. Yay!

Session 9- Haven't seen it yet but I'll bet this one will do for atmosphere

I thought about Howard the Duck and Clive Barker's Night Breed but I don't know...

Oh and Bram Stoker's Shadow Builder for the fact I like alot of his stuff

Soul Keeper- 3-D covers insure fun.

Faust: blah blah- need the super hero flick based on unknown comic as well. Well that's my ideal list.

>How about everyone list a movie (or more) that aren't always the obvious picks

 Here are mine;

The Midnight Hour - Made for TV movie about some kids who recite a spell at the cemetary as a joke and end up raising a vampire/witch and several zombies. Has humor and serious parts.

Haunted - Aidan Quinn as a professor around the turn of the century who gets a letter from a woman claiming she's surrounded by ghosts, so he goes to stay at the house and investigate.

The Haunting (original) - One of the creepiest haunted house movies I've seen.

The Haunting of Hell House - Another good one.

Without Warning - An alien hunting people in the country.

Humungous - Deformed killer stalking teens on an island.

Lee

Cemetery Man- One of the coolest zombie flicks I've ever seen.

Highway To Hell- Plenty of stupid fun. Unfortunately it never plays that classic song.

Christine- Creepy possesed car and it's whacko owner. All ways a decent choice.

This is the Hell that's my life.-Howard Stern: Private Parts

I've decided I'm gonna follow a template of comedy horror > cheesy horror > real horror this year.

To open and lighten the mood I'm showing either 'Killer Klowns from Outer Space', 'Braindead' or 'Frankenhooker'.

Once they're lulled into a false sense of security I'll show 'em either 'The Uninvited', 'The Dark Power' or 'Jack Frost'.

To end it'll most likely be 'Session 9', which I haven't seern yet but read good things about.
