Just seen BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF. Its a French film that has a few elements that are different.

1. The film has a strange creature that kills in the countryside.

2. The film has a blue tint to it, its set in 1700's France.

3. Martial Arts are used frequently.

4. You have a native American Indian as well in the story. Kinda like in last of the Mohigans.

5. With your typical French aire of the upper class.

Good film ideas and execution, but somehow it wasn't enough for me.

It was a good film, from what I saw....I don't know if it had all of the elements I consider in a good movie, but the gore was excellent

I thought it was ok...was disappointed to find out what the monster was (I won't spoil it), but I'm surprised when talking to people....most of the people I've talked to don't even realize what the creature really is.

yeah, i started watching this last night, i got about 3/4th's into it, & i don't know why it just lost my interests, i mean the film didn't really grab me to begin with. i'm not sure what it is about it, the story, or the characters, or some other elements. the Cinematography's great, the direction's good, so is the acting, plus the film had a real cool look to it. i guess it's just the story with me.

As for myself I liked it. And it has gone onto my list of "15 Favorite Films." Though the Beast winds up not to be a werewolf, there are enough references to werewolves in the film to make this one of the best werewolf films ever made. Enjoy!

I thought it fit into the category of good movies that just didn't do it for me.  Thin Red Line is another example.  A lot of it was the extended periods of no action in the movie; another was that martial arts choreographed fight scenes don't impress me; and a third reason was the subtitles, which distract from the visual action (though I usually prefer them to dubbing).

Great idea for a movie though (but the end disappointed)... Sleepy Hollow had the same kind of premise/atmosphere and was better.  Also, if the action happened in 1864, then how was that young guy a teetering old man by the French Revolution (just 25 years later)??  They could have easily avoided that by just setting the action a couple of decades earlier.

Oh, by the way I just realized the film wasn't tinted blue. It was the TV was set to make it look blue. I thought they were trying to be artsy. It wasn't till I was watching DAGON that I realized it was my TV settings. The blue tint is ver distracting on tv's.

I liked it, but I felt the martial arts stuff was too distracting. Hell, if the story is interesting (and that one really was), why did they had to add such things?

Anyway, the french are releasing some interesting stuff lately. I really liked a film called "The purple rivers" or something similar, it was a thriller starring Jean Reno and Vincent Cassell. Recommended.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.
