Wow this is really sad news, RIP Lou.

TCM 2 is so unlike the first film that I agree, Hooper was smart in not trying to remake the first film and to do something completely over the top.

I would give more credit for Charles Kaufman's "Mother's Day" then Hooper.

Thanks Skull, I have not gotten around to seeing this one yet, but I remember the seeing the cover many times.

"Mother's Day" is a quite unusual horror film because it predates Nightmare on Elm Street and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, yet you would think they got their idea from such "Anti-Heroes."

:)

One film that I think Wes Craven was definitely watching was "Blood and Lace" from 1971. Go to about 1:24 into this and you'll see a slasher that looks awfully like Freddy Krueger. It's a decent proto-slasher drive in movie. As far as look goes I think we have our source right here,

and mother's day is an ok movie, worth checking out I think but don't expect something amazing.

A little Ike and Addley slasher training video... :)

Mr. DS

I like this film although it kind of becomes a parody of the first one.  It has one of my all time favorite quotes, "The saw is family".
