Headed for Has-Been City

A lot of TV show actors will leave a show to go do movies.  I find that many actors who had a cult following during their show never seem to make it in movies, sometimes for a very long time.  X-files and Star Trek are examples of what I mean.  Many actors who had some success in those shows are now finding it hard to find work outside of those shows.

This year, many shows will be ending or have been cancelled.   The verdict is still out on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Gellar has said she "wants to concentrate on her movie career."  David Duchovny of X-files said the same thing.  How many GOOD movies has he been in?

Who else do you think is Headed for Has-Been City?

First of all, Gellar already has movie appeal. Sure she has made some crap, but I would say she has three strong films in Cruel Intentions, Scooby Doo, and I know what you did Last Summer (which she also wisely allowed her character to die in, during probably the best part of the film). This is different from Duchovony, who has just never had real acting chops or a solid movie base before he left TV (although hr did have one great role in one of my favorite movies.... Zoolander)

I think the two doctors (anthony Edwards and Eriq LaSallle) will not go anywhere.

Ofcourse there is always the laughable Rob Lowe, who keeps blowing his stardom.

And alas, if Chris Kattan leaves, that will be it for him (although I think Will Ferrell will always have a good run as a  character actor).

And I hope God shines down on us and makes Jessica no talent Biel  from Seventh Heaven a "has been"

Shelly Long and Kirstie Alley found out how hard it was to go from T.V.stardom to movies :)

Anthony Edwards?  That's Goose man!  Goose!

Once "The Dead Zone" has had its fifteen minutes, will Anthony Michael Hall's amazing resurrection from Obscurity City continue? Cross reference: Alley, Kristie.

If there is a God, two things will happen:

A) This will be the last season of The Friends.
B)  We will never see any of them in a movie or TV show again.

Probably not likely, Jessica Anniston has got some critical acclaim for some movie she just made and Chandler seems to appeal to some part of the movie-going public... and he was actually pretty funny in that Bruce Willis hitman movie.  As for the rest of them, I think the Italian guy was in Lost in Space and was terrible.  I have pretty high hopes that we'll never see the other four again.

Julianna Marguiles (spelling?). She turned down obscene riches to do another year of ER and what does she do instead? Ghost Ship!

Anthony Edwards and people like that strike me as the types that will go into directing or something.

Jennifer Aniston will be around for a while. She's in one of those "Hollywood power couple" dealies and those tend to spell success for those concerned. Same thing with Sarah Michelle Gellar. Although your guess is as good as mine as to what power Freddie Prinze Jr. weilds.

Have any of the former Daily Show correspondents gone on to do anything else? I miss Beth Littleford...

Oddly, Stephen Colbert, who's been consistantly appearing on the show for years, managed to land two other regular TV gigs without leaving (Strangers with Candy, Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law).

I really don't think anyone's been able to replicate the meteoric rise and fall of David Caruso.  He's like the Vanilla Ice of Hollywood entertainment.

Maybe that's why they're bringing back Eliza Dushku later this season. When the character of Faith was first introduced, there was talk of Gellar leaving and I got the impression that maybe she was intended to be a possible replacement.

Personally I think it sucks when an actor becomes popular on a TV show and then wants to leave it for movies. I don't know about anyone else, but if I had a choice between continued employment on a TV show or taking my chances with movies, I'd stick with the show.

There's this arrogance in Hollywood that TV shows are slumming it and you're nothing if you're not a movie star. That's why so many TV actors try to break out into film. Maybe they want to leave the "daily grind" of the show. I hate it when actors pretend that what they do is so grueling and hard. A lot of people work a lot harder for a pathetic fraction of what stars on major TV shows and movies get paid and they don't b***h as much.
