I've come to accept that everything no matter how obsure or popular will be remade, but why does it have to be done so badly?

Funny...

Why not make a movie about a kid who needs protection so he learns Karate from a Karate Master that's a gardner/shop owner/janitor/etc...

Oh, snap we have a ton of them from the 1980's... including Karate Kid... :)

the original isn't outdated enough for a remake.  It's from the 80's.  what are they going to do remake Rocky and Star Wars too?

After seeing the name Jaden Smith, I kind of lost any interest in the article.  Its bad enough we have his father and mother to deal with.

Wonder if they're gonna change the name to the Kung Fu Kid? I still cant get over the fact that he's going to CHINA to learn Karate

Yeah.  It's another stupid remake, as the Karate Kid is an excellent film.  They should be remaking films that have a reason to be remade, if they're going to do it at all.

I might add there are a TON of Chinese kung fu films with plots quite similar to the Karate Kid (though normally not in a contemporary setting).  Ya know, helpless guy gets help from mysterious sifu to learn kung fu to defend/avenge himself.  It just seems gratuitous to do one as a remake of the Karate Kid.

The whole idea is terrible.  And who's the producer?  And what kinda crack is he smoking?

Jaden Smith as the Ralph Macchio role?

Jackie Chan in the Pat Morita role?

Jaden Smith, whatever.  I don't hate the kid, as I've never seen him act yet.  But Jackie Chan?  Didn't he do enough injustice with Rush Hours 1-3? Shanghai Noon?  He needs to give us ANOTHER bad movie?

He just wants Americans to LIKE him.  Never mind his older fans loved him and his films and a lot of them think he's sold out with his American films. I guess people who thought he was great back in the day don't count.

I don't hate the man personally, and think he can be kinda funny, at times.  But the dude just picks the WORST movies to be in.  The Tuxedo? Really?  He's gonna win people over with that?  I'm not talking the movies he made before he came here.  They were fine.  But once he hopped a flight to America and said "Hollywood, here I come", he kinda sold out.

Well Jaden's parents are a Hollywood "power couple" Maybe they could re-make ALL the movies with kids using Jaden, starting with Shirely Temple and then Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney movies through Dakota Fanning's films, not forgetting E.T., Fire Starter, Kramer vs Kramer &  Village of the Damned, where thanks to CGI, he will play slightly morphed versions of all the children.

I don't have anything against any kid , but this re-making mania has gone waaay to far. I wouldn't mind if they were good or even interesting, but they're just Product meant to seperate us from our money.

I do give him credit for fully going back to HK for quite a while (something, for example, Jet Li never really did).  He's done a lot to support the industry over there.  His HK films made after his success in America are actually pretty decent (a lot better than the Rush Hour films and The Tuxedo anyway).  The Myth, New Police Story, Rob-B-Hood - all worth a watch.  Shinjuku Incident looks good too.

I like his HK films, at least the ones I've seen.  I give him plenty of respect for that.  I don't blame him for trying to break into America.  He shows glimpses of being really great.  It's just that he picks the worst American scripts to do, figuring "I'll make a quick buck and people will watch cause I'm Jackie Chan."
