Why do ppl hate Freddy's Revenge!?

A Nightmare On Elm Street is recognised as a horror classic. a film which has spawned many sequels, merchandise and has been referenced many times in other forms of popular culture. "Freddy's Revenge", the first sequel, released in 1985 is hated by almost every single person I have ever met. WHY?

Has everyone seen the other films!? "Dream Child" anyone?? I know for sure that the Darksider hates "Dream Master" more. I've always felt that the first 3 were the best, before the series sold out and became too comedic. The first 3 had the best special effects too, Freddy actually looks gross and menacing, rather than in later films where he looks like a rubber pizza. Freddy's Revenge altered the premise slightly, but is that really a bad thing? I mean, ppl always give Friday 13th a hard time, due to it being Jason killing campers in the woods again and again......and again.....But how is it so implausible that a "fictional" child killer, that enters ppl's "dreams" cannot be in the "real" world!? It's a movie!

I don't like it becuase it's dull.
Yes, there's a lot of rubbish in bits in all the films but at least stuff is happening !
My favourite is 6...YEAH, 6 !!!

But it kept me entertained for it's length more than all the others.

Freddy's Revenge is probably not that popular for a couple of reasons:

* it's the oddball of the series in terms of plot - Freddy wants to come into the real world in this one, however, isn't that where he's most vulnerable? Anyway, it's a tonal shift apart from the rest (good or bad) and you know how people are resistant to change.

* the second reason is probably due to the homosexual subtext of the entire movie. I personally didn't have a problem with it myself but it doesn't surprise me that many would.

And as posted above, it was rather dull, but then many slasher flicks are.

It's been awhile since I seen this one, but a couple things stick out in memory: the exploding bird (Freddy does some weird magic in this one), Nancy's journal, and the extreme long tongue action! There's a bit they're reading from the journal that was pretty tight though when they were reading about Nancy's little fantasy. Memory is a bit hazy but I remember something cool about that part.

Anyway, NOES 1 was my fav, as most agree. Parts 3, 4, and 5 were a trilogy of their own, and part 6 is utter pain. Part 2 gets hate mostly because it's just such an oddball of the series.

I liked it. I don't dislike any of the Elm Street flicks. Freddy is my favorite of the Big Three slasher icons and I like all the movies. They're all enjoyable on some level. The first one, and Wes Craven's New Nightmare are both enjoyable as genuinely good films. Many of the other series entries are enjoyable as campy, cartoony, surrealistic F.X. spectacles, driven by their unrestrained energy, unparalleled imagery, and charismatic personality. I can watch any, or every, Elm Street movie, any day of the week, and be totally happy by the time credits roll.

I admit that, yeah, it's not the best entry in the franchise, and it does stick out like a sore damn thumb, but it'd still give it a solid 3 or 3.5 out of 5.

Probably because it has the worst kill sequences of the entire series, the least amount of them (discounting a ton of people getting killed in the last like 5 minutes), the pacing is poor, the atmosphere just isn't there, the acting is blah, the storyline sucks the most of all the sequels...   It's just bad, by far the worst and least imaginative in the entire series.

I loved the first one, but really didn't care for any of the sequels.  Freddy's New Nightmare was the dullest slasher I've seen in a long time.  Every Halloween they run those things over and over, and last Halloween I thought that maybe I hadn't given them a fair chance in the past, so I sat down and gave them a fair chance.  Made it about halfway through part two, and only 15 - 20 minutes into the rest of them.

I honestly can not recall the stories except from 1 and 3.

O yes the second one, was the weird one where the guy was the son or related or a possible host to freddy and he could use him to come back or something.....

3, 4 and 5 where good. 6 I can not recall any of it or maybe I can... Was that the one with freddy feeding souls to his unborn son?

OK, I liked 2, it was not awful but did feel strange to watch. I never really liked the real world stuff, it bugged me in freddy vs jason as well.

3 was one of the best, 4 was also highly enjoyable and 5 was the one with freddy feeding souls to unborn child (strange but it was not as bad as it could have been, still enjoyable.)

6..... ummm ok I watched it at some point but did not enjoy this one... I struggle to even remember it.

Have not seen a "New Nightmare". However, it sounds like an interesting take on the story. (Of course it could be crap)

To be honest I just hope they don't remake the first film, like they recently did to Halloween.

I think the big thing with part 2 for me is it's rather forgettable.  Its one of those films people will talk about (as in this thread) and I react with "oh yeah yeah yeah, I remember that" while the file clerk in my mind fetches the information.  Let me say though,  I do not recall it being a "bad" film in the very least.  By far not the worst out of the series which as Circus mentioned for me is #4.  I hate #4 with a passion because it pretty much unraveled everything #3 did IMHO meticulously.  I'm actually on the fence on #5 because it felt it did kind of ditch the MTV feel of #4 and recaptured some of Freddy' terror.  Then...that got lost again on #6.  Oh well...80's horror is as 80s horror does.

Yes, it's been remade.  Hasn't been released yet, but is slated for a February 2010 release.  The new Freddy is Jackie Earle Haley, who played Kelly in The Bad News Bears (Matthau version, not Thornton).  Recently Haley was in The Watchmen.

I don't completely hate it, but there are a few scenes in it that felt like they really tried to force to be scary.  For instance, the lightning bolt hitting the dishes, or the exploding canary.  At both scenes, I just kind of shrugged my shoulders and said, "Okaaaaaay..." 

I still think the second one is leagues ahead of NOES 5.

I was born and raised in the era when Freddy wasn't really scary anymore, so I've never really looked at him as all that an imposing figure, and thus I've never really gotten miffed when they've made out to be a cartoon. Michael Meyers and Jason Voorhees, yeah. But Freddy, no. The closest he's ever come to being actually scary was in the first one (MUCH darker than the subsequent sequels) and New Nightmare (where they imbued with a kind of seriousness and genuine malevolence that I feel he was kind of missing from the other movies). That being said, as much as I like Nightmare 1 and New Nightmare, I've always felt Freddy was at his best the more comic booky his films got. He's kind of like a Cryptkeeper who offs people himself, and I like that. It's goofy and stupid a lot of the time, but, christ, is it ever fun. The power glove gag still gets me, and yet it might actually be the dumbest Freddy kill ever. Next to the meatball one.

I actually remember Nightmare 2 well. It's not the best of the series sequels, but I like it. I like the weird homoerotic bent everything has, and I love the coach character. Very twisted. Does it fizzle a bit? Yes. I chalk it up to the producers still trying to find their waterwings with this new franchise. Once 3 they came around, they nailed it. After that, they got into the groove, and the groove pretty much stayed the same for the rest of the series.

I still think the whole "death by pipebomb" think, though, was just terrible.

Incidentally, I think Freddy's worst dialogue ever was in Freddy Vs. Jason. Yeah, I know he's vulgar and crass and misogynistic, but, seriously, his lines in F.V.J. consisted almost entirely of the word "b***h." Sure, he's said it before, but jesus effin' poop, F.V.J. just took it  waaaaay overboard (in my opinion). On a related note, anyone ever notice that the "overcompensation" argument that the chick from Destiny Child makes in F.V.J. makes absolutely no sense at all?

It makes no sense, really, but if memory serves, at that point I think she was just stalling so her friends could either escape or pour the gasoline on the dock at Camp Crystal Lake.  So it didn't matter at that point what she said, she was just stalling for time.

Unfortunately it didn't work out for her as Jason hit her with a machete and she flew a good hundred feet or so into a tree.
