I can understand Katie laughing for a half hour, Andrew. I saw this think once...in Japanese....and i was...dumbfounded,amazed, hysterical....oh, go choose any adjective for haveing a brain hernia. This thing is perfect MST material, and worthy of all abuse heaped upon it.
Just remember, gang, don't throw things at the screen unless they have Nerf qualites....they sure had the Nerf to make this movie!
Sheesh!

I agree. "Attack of the Super Monsters" has to be the worst science fiction film ever to have come out of Japan. It's just atrocious. I can't see where the positivity in the reviews came from. Everything about this movie is bad.

Also, I thought I'd point out that Emperor Tyrannus was played by the same costume used to bring "The Last Dinosaur" to life. I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned.

I went back and forth on that point, but do not think that they are the same suit.  This is after having both movies playing in different rooms, dashing back and forth to compare.

Terrible?  Oh heck yes.  Amusing?  Look at all the cheese!  Cheese!  CHEESE! CHEESE!

I dunno, the serrated-edged flying drill machine looks pretty sweet. Guaranteed to permanently put out a child's eye within the first three minutes of play, too.

As for the "Last Dinosaur" controversy, I can see where one might get the idea that these are the same suits; after all, the styracosaurus/"tricerotops" looks a lot like the two-man suit that appeared in "Last." But if that's Lord Tyrannus standing next to the styracosaurus in the "Images" section, then no, it's certainly not the same suit.

I gotta get this sucker.

Have you seen ATTACK OF THE DINOSAURS companion film RETURN OF THE DINOSAURS? If you think AOTD was dreck, you clearly haven't seen ROTD. The special effects look like they were done by Fisher-Price!

Flangepart

Don't know about Return, but Legend of the Dinosaurs, by early MST3K, is a hoot!
Sadly, the dvd i got from a vendor is going south, and i don't know why. Arrgghh!

It is the same suit. "The Last Dinosaur" and "Aizenborg" were both made by Tsuburaya studios. The suit in "Aizenborg/ Attack of the Super Monsters" just looks much more horrible, because by that time (1978-- just a year after "The Last Dinosaur") was made, the suit was already falling apart. I've done a lot of research on these things.

The Styracosaurus suit looks nothing like the Triceratops suit from "The Last Dinosaur". And Emperor Tyrannus doesn't do any fighting in "Attack of the Super Monsters", but apparently, he did in at least one episode of "Aizenborg".

Squishy, email me and I'll send you a pic of Tyrannus.  He looks a lot like the T-Rex in "The Last Dinosaur".
Kneel before Dr. Hell, the ruler of this world!

I searched to see if somebody was selling "Attack of the Supermonsters" on eBay. I didn't find it, but I was amused by the fact that eBay's search engine asked me, "Did you mean 'Attack of the Superministers?'" Now THAT'S a movie I'd love to see!

if you're looking to buy this, I have an extra copy I can sell you....it's an actual/real tape and not a dub. I used to pick up every package-variation for the various kaiju (Japanese giant monster) movies, but I'm letting some of the variants go now.  It's used though, but still plays great.
