First dates with a b-movie

We've talked about this before throughout the years in various topics but I always enjoyed talking about it when it came up. What b-movies have you had the pleasure (or displeasure) of taking a lady or gentleman to as a first date. I've had a couple. My first b-movie date was with my to-be prom date. I took her to see The Core (2003), the terrible doomsday film utilizing every loud Hollywood effect in the book. And I warned her what is was going to be like. I knew it was going to suck and I tried to dissuade her from going because I knew it would be awkward and sucky, but for some reason that still escapes me, she came. And the movie sucked. But she didn't complain. She didn't like it (for good reason) but it wasn't a bad date.

My next b-movie first date was at a party where I put Octopus 2 on the TV in the main room. The party calmed down and it turned into a great raucous MST3K themed screening. It was at that party while watching Octopus 2 that I met my girlfriend of now 6 years. Pretty good start. To make things better, our first real date was to see 28 Days Later (2002). That was a good film, not really b-movie quality, but its intended effect of scaring her into the awaiting and protecting arms of yours truly was without flaw.

Needless to say, for I, like for many of us, b-movies have been an integral part of our lives, both privately and with other people. I have made them almost a lifestyle, for they provide solid entertainment as either mind numbingly badness or rock-n-roll awesomeness. I've still yet to understand why I often choose the b-movie over the polished, "good" film, though I do enjoy them.

you old romantic.

not exactly , but my first 'real' girlfriend hired out Candyman for her 15th birthday (thinking about it now, it's an 18. so maybe she got her brother or parents to hire it out), I remember we'd heard it was the scariest film ever made, and we enjoyed it and got quite scared ,so fair enough... - not sure if Candyman qualifies as a b-movie tho'?

Never taken a date to a B-movie.  Come to think of it, never taken a date to a movie.

Shadow

On our very first date, my wife and I went to see They (2002).

The only other first date I had that involved a movie was a previous girlfriend who I took to see the first Ice Age film.

Me and my last GF saw In the Name of the King! That sucked :teddyr:

I can't remember the wife and my first movie date.  We did go to see Star Wars Attack Of The Clones which was painful to sit through and Jason X which I enjoyed a bit but she hated.

Every girl I've ever dated has been exposed to B-movies, though only one of them on the first date (which also proved to be our only date for reasons beyond anybody's control) -- she insisted that we watch Troll 2.

No first dates with b-movies.  Went on a first date with current squeeze to see Paris Je'taime, and that seemed to work out quite well.  Not only was it a reasonable anthology film, but it was all about Paris [which she loves] and love and whatnot.

We're both big movie lovers and I found that our relationship really started to blossom after we went and saw "American Astronaut" and "Irma Vep".

Good times indeed!

My first dates usually WERE b-movies.

Last september, I met with this chick to go see Grindhouse. durring Planet Terror, I lost it when the kid shot himself in the noggin. She, um.... did not.  :bouncegiggle:

Infact, now that i think about it, Im pretty sure she left somewhere in the middle of Death Proof. Granted, that half of Grindhouse WAS pretty dissapointing, but I dont think thats why she left.

I've never actually been on a date, now that I think about it.

I took my wife to see "SSSSSSSSSS" or "Night of the Lepus" or some other pair of bad movies, can't remember what they were for sure now. What I do remember was her asking on the way home why I liked to watch these awful movies, I told her that they usually were bad, but if they were really bad they could be very funny and that occasionally there were some really good "B" movies that were enjoyable. She replied that in a demented masochistic way my answer actually made sense, she's been watching "B" movies with me ever since. We also watch the occasional chick flick or popular blockbuster together. I've found that we generally like the same films regardless of subject matter.

It was not a B-movie persay but there was this terrible baseball film (I think it was called for love of the game) that I took one of my highschool girlfriends to.  It was our first and last date, such a bad bad movie: Kevin Costner crying like a little baby over some chick that is supposed to be his love but treats him like trash throughout the entire film.

I took a girl to see Godzilla 2000: Millenium
I thought she had enough of a sense of humor, but sadly no.
