Need help identifying film with blind man

I remember when I was about 6 years old (around 1999) my parents rented a movie, and I watched some scenes. I remember it was about a blind man, there's a scene where eveything he sees from his eyes slowly turns black, and I also remember a scene where he bumps through a glass door or window in the city, and gets badly cut.

i need more info,young one. for example,was this a relatively new movie at the time,or a classic your parents rented? have you asked them for info? maybe a clue who was in it,or who directed it,that might be why they rented it?
i think there's a scene like that in man with the x-ray eyes,for example..
