Is Larry Cohen one of the unheralded kings of bad movie-making? You never hear the guy's name mentioned, but IT'S ALIVE, IT LIVES AGAIN, ISLAND OF THE ALIVE, Q, and THE STUFF (to name a few) must rank him near the top of the list.

He gets mentioned, Q is reviewed on this site.  Currently the sniper thriller Phone Booth is tied up due to recent events on the East Coast, but Cohen hopes to do a remake of his killer baby epic It's Alive.

He also wrote one of my favourite thrillers ever, "Best Seller", starring James Woods and Brian Dennehy. Great movie.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

larry Cohen is one of the best horror film auteurs that is out there, for I'm heavily anticipating his return to the big screen, even if it's a remake of his own "It's Alive",since it's been pretty quiet in the theaters without any Larry Cohen movies to shock and shake up the movie-going masses(both the straight-to-video "The Ambulance"[1990],and the barely released "Original Gangstas[1996]both don't count),which really need to be shaken up right about now.

Larry Cohen is indeed an underrated director. He is best a t writing, but his direction is still superb with my favorite of his films (Q) he shows lots of shots that get ou into the idea of there being something there without seeing it. Similar to this is the job Joel Shumager did on Lost boys. they never had to show the monsters to get you to know they are there. Cohen also has a good idea of how to keep the object of motion and he does well at giving you that dizzy feeling with heights. I simply love his directing style and I wish I could find more of his stuff out there.

Larry Cohen stinks, stanks AND stunks. BEST SELLER was decent, but if I remember correctly, the plot had holes in it big enough for you to walk through. He was better off not showing much of the monster in Q, because the animation was vintage 1933 technology.  IT'S ALIVE - sorry, I'm not scared by a rubber doll and blurry POV shots. Nope, Larry is BAD, but I don't think he gets enough credit for it.

I'll agree to disagree, I think the man's writing is smarter than the average screenwriter and his movies have more personality to boot.

On the comments of Q and It's Alive by Joe:

I think that you missed the point of the Fx themselves. They were supposed to be of the low budget variety. It's okay if you don't like that but it's not like anyone probably thought they looked good. The movies had budget constrictions.
