Why do we keep doing posts on our Least favorite things. Showe a little life. I am now going to tell you my FAVORITE films. Not ones I hate. Not ones that are disgusting, ones that I like.

Favorite serious film: I love American Beauty it is amazing, I also like Memento a lot. It is a movie that really makes you think. Schindler's List and American History X are awesome too. I also enjoy an oldie called All About Eve

Farorite Comedy: Zoolander and Animal House vye for that top spot. Theres Something About Mary is wonderful too because it has a story to it.Young Frankenstein is a classic.

Favorite Horror: No doubt is the Omen. It is so wonderful. I love Halloween, Scream, Pitch Black and the Exorcist. They are all great.

Favorite Bad Horror: I loved this movie Without Warning it was classic trash. I enjoy the Faculty a lot too. Final Destination is a fun watch too. I wish I knew or saw more.  I like  any bad movie with Christopher Lee, especially the Dracula ones.

Favorite Action: The ultimate action is of course Predator. A very close second is Kiss of the Dragon and a very close third is Blade.

How about you??

Off the top of my head...

Some favorite science-fiction/fantasy films: John Frankenheimer's SECONDS, RETURN TO OZ, MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, and (of course) THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

Some favorite comedies: IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD, THE ODD COUPLE, Woody Allen's SLEEPER, and Abbott & Costello's WHO DONE IT?

Some favorite animated films: THE BLACK CAULDRON, THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE, and THE BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER

Some favorite action films: John Frankenheimer's DEAD-BANG, just about anything I've seen by SAM PECKINPAH, THE PHANTOM, TRUCK TURNER, INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, and SHAFT'S BIG SCORE!

Some favorite guilty pleasures: SPACE MUTINY, STARCHASER: THE LEGEND OF ORIN, just about anything I've seen by CIRIO H. SANTIAGO or the POLONIA BROTHERS, Ralph Bakshi's FIRE AND ICE, the almost-stationary animated cartoons from MARVEL COMICS in the 60's, and David A. Prior's DEADLY PREY

I'm sure there's quite a few that I've missed...

Bernie

My favorites are pretty traditional:

Favorite comedy team: Marx Brothers (if I had to pick, it would be a toss-up between Animal Crackers, Duck Soup and Night at the Opera)

Favorite action/drama hero:  Humphrey Bogart (Casablana and Maltese Falcon, of course)

Favorite "modern" action here:  Harrison Ford

Favorite "modern" comedy:  Woody Allen's Annie Hall (can't help it -- it's the story of my wife & myself -- especially the scene where they contrast the two families at dinner!  We howl in recognition at that!)
Runners-up:  Animal House (I think I saw it 2 or 3 times the summer it came out)
Blazing Saddles (ditto)
The Producers (maybe the funniest single movie ever made)

Sci-fi/horror:  For horror I am strictly a classicist -- can't see that anyone's every improved on Bride of Frankenstein, for my money. Not big on gore of any kind, even for laughs.
For sci-fi, maybe 2001 (the fact that I saw it in the original Cinerama may be a factor here); the original Planet of the Apes (was there ever a movie with an impact like that last scene?); Star Wars, of course (though it's not aging at all well, for me, anyway -- looks more embarrasingly superficial every viewing); The Wrath of Khan (sue me, I'm an old-time Trek fan, and this one had it all -- humor, action, philosophy, everything that made the original series great, and in just the right proportions).

Guilty pleasure:  my current one is Psych-Out, a great old hippie flick with Jack Nicholson -- even though it's 1968, all the familiar Nicholson quirks and mannerisms are there, full-blown.  The fact that it was all shot in an around Haight-Ashbury doesn't hurt either.  To my mind, a much better hippie flick that Easy Rider (even if the music isn't as good).

Favorite "bad" movies:  poor old Ed Wood.  Our collection is now at 7 Ed Wood flicks and we treasure'em all.

We're also big MST3K fans, have about 100 on tape, watch'em all the time.  Favorites:  Pod People, Track of the Moon Beast, Space Mutiny, The Dead Talk Back, Sidehackers, The Hellcats, Girls Town, etc. etc.

Bernie

Almost forgot:

As far as favorites go, The Lord of the Rings is already on my list as one of the greatest movies of all time, and it's only 2/3ds released!

Todd R.

I'm not a Trek fan myself, but I'm probably alone here when I say that STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE is, in my opinion, the very best entry in the Trek film series. (I am, of course, referring to the vastly improved director's cut.) For me, this is the most philosophical of the series: it explores the necessity of finding one's unique place in life, the importance of determining one's own destiny, the barren nature of a life without friendship and emotion, and the fundamental need of any intelligent being to grow and become more than what it currently is.

In fact, I should've included this one in my list of favorite science-fiction films...

Bernie

Man, I wanted to like it so much -- went to see it the night it opened, in fact.  But, as has been stated many itmes, it was (1) too damn slow (if there was one more woshipful tracking shot around that damn ship, I would scream); (2) too derivative of a vastly superior episode from the series -- I am of course referring to the Nomad episode, which made much the same points more quickly, economically and entertainingly (IMHO); and (3) -- and this is one is extremely subjective, so I've left it for last -- the characters just didn't seem to be 'themselves' -- the behavior and relationships were just off, somehow, and it colored the whole experience.

But that's just me....

The Burgomaster

Favorite movie: THE GODFATHER - now and forever - no contest - miles above all the rest.

Favorite horror: THE EXORCIST - great production values - top notch script, acting, direction.

Favorite documentary: WOODSTOCK (especially the director's cut) - great music and a fascinating look at the 60s hippie culture.

Favorite musicals: This is a toss up. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, OLIVER, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, SINGIN' IN THE RAIN.

Favorite sci-fi: WAR OF THE WORLDS and INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (the original, although I am a fan of the Donald Sutherland version as well).

Favorite cult classic: Another tough category, but LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT is as good a guess as any. I also have a warm place in my heart for ERASERHEAD.

Favorite blaxploitation film: The original SHAFT, but I give an honorable mention to TRUCK TURNER because it is very watchable and not many people have seen it.

Favorite campy teen horror: I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF

Favorite campy teen sci-fi: THE BLOB (the original)

Favorite action/thriller that not many modern audiences have seen: THE WAGES OF FEAR (which was remade as SORCERER starring Roy Scheider)

Favorite "Divine" movie: PINK FLAMINGOS

Favorite recent thrillers that I luckily stumbled upon: FUNNY GAMES and AUDITION

Favorite 3-D movie: ANDY WARHOL'S FRANKENSTEIN, followed by THE HOUSE OF WAX

Favorite David Cronenberg movie: SHIVERS (aka THEY CAME FROM WITHIN)

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Funk, E.

Herm....
Comedies I'd say Ghostbusters, Young Frankenstien, The Producers, My Favorite Year and The Meaning of Life, American Werewolf in London, The Princess Bride
Drama: Casablanca, Fight Club, Marathon Man, The Graduate, Clockwork Orange
Romance: African Queen, Sabrina (original w/ Bogart)
Fantasy: Excalibur, Conan the Barbarian, LOTR
SciFi: Solent Green, Wrath of Kahn, Bladerunner
Horror: Alien, Night of the Living Dead, Exorcist
Action: Aliens, The French Connection, The Bourne Identity, Raiders of the Lost Arc
Blah, blah, blah

Vermin Boy

Christ, I've been immersed in b-movies so long I can no longer differentiate between "serious" and "funny" and "horror" and "bad horror." It's gotten to the point where I can only see "entertaining" and "unentertaining." So, I'll just list my Top Ten All-Time Favorites of the Moment:

*This Is Spinal Tap
*Plan 9 From Outer Space
*Pulp Fiction
*Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
*Young Frankenstein (pound for pound, possibly the best comedy ever made)
*Un Chien Andalou
*Mars Attacks!
*Army of Darkness
*Complex World (hard to find, but AMAZING)
*A Bucket of Blood

I got hawk the slayer on VHS yesterday, i watched it for the first time then and, to my friends amazement, sat through the whole thing on my own without any breaks. its bloody hilarious.
Why the hell are u refering to ff7 out of the blue or did i not read something? unless you have knowledge of someone actually called buggenhaggen?
Predator is brilliant, have you seen the poor attempt at a sequel?
Oh yeah some sites like this would have 'Dog Soldiers' under their list but i saw it and thaught it was actually very good, its definately worth watching so rent it if not buy it and look out for the quotes and little humorous details!
any way hawk the slayer is worth watching because its so bad as well.
Has any one seen catch me if you can and is it good?

Its A Mad Mad Mad World, is great and there is a modern day version of it called Rat Race, which is also great.

I forgot about animated. For sure it is Toy Story, The Lion King, The Thundercats movie, Dragonball Z, and most recently Monsters Inc.

One category I forgot was musicals. My favorite alternates between My Fair Lady and West Side Story, but I also like 1776 and Guys and Dolls.

Thanks for reminding me of THE FRENCH CONNECTION, which also reminds me of another great detective/chase flick from that era...

Naturally, I'm speaking of BULLITT.

And, by the way...am I the only FRENCH CONNECTION fan who actually likes Frankenheimer's FRENCH CONNECTION II?
