Must've been early 70's i believe for this one. Movie centers around two guys with hot cars and chirpping at ech other to lead up to the grand finale race. Movie ends with the race being one by the bad guy with evreyone thinking good guy drove off the end of a cliff. Yet, good guy emerges from the dust saying: "Boy, that was some race, wish I coulda seen it..." or something along that line. All I remember is the movie had some pretty cool cars in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow... You guys are very helpful. Unfortunately, heavenly kid is very close but not the movie. Movie I'm looking for was definitely made in the 70's as I was pretty young. Although that scene is so very close to what I remember in the movie. I'm pretty sure the movie was set in California. I thought Garey Busey might have been in but not sure.
Oh, Have two lane blacktop already. Hard to believe that was James Taylor in that one.

No... Got that one too. The two actors were portraying high school students and were after the same girl. Yeah, sounds like 300 other movies out there. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Joejoe... I think you're on to something here. The cover of "return to Macon County" looks close. I really enjoyed "California Kid"! Thanks...!
