The Burgomaster

Well, I finally saw it.

Bought the Troma DVD in fact.

Not only is the movie, BAD, BAD, BAD, but the dvd is a full-screen version. Most of the movie was filmed with one actor on the far left and one actor on the far right, so when they cropped the edges of the film to make it a 1.33 : 1 aspect ratio, THEY CUT OUT MOST OF THE DAMNED PEOPLE. I spent the entire movie watching lips and noses, or a half a face, on the edge of the screen, while the camera was focused on a chair or a table or something in the center of the screen. You often hear voices, but cannot see who is talking! (Maybe it's better that way).

Anyway, if you haven't seen this movie, it was basically pieced together over a period of years with different actors, and then edited together into a gigantic mess. There is very little "blood," and the only "ghastly horror" was the fact that I paid $17.99 for this piece of trash.

But what would my bad movie collection be without it?

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Producer Sam Sherman told me, when BOGH hit the dvd market, that they simply provided Troma Video with a pan & scan master he had readily available, so they could simply get the movie out for the fans. Sam has told me he may eventually get a widescreen BOGH out, and possibly in the future release PSYCHO A-GO-GO, the original film from whence BOGH came from, in its original unexpurgated widescreen format.

BLOOD OF GHASTLY HORROR isn't one of my favorites of Al Adamson's movies, but it's still fun in its own way.

The Troma dvd is neither panned nor scanned. The film remains centered throughout and most of the time the actors are nowhere to be seen. At the end, when Regina Carroll is tied to the operating table, her entire head is out of frame. All you get to see is her torso.

On second thought, maybe it ain't so bad . . .

And another interesting note . . .

Sam Sherman appears in a couple of the "special features" on the BLOOD OF GHASTLY HORROR dvd. In one segment, he refers to Al Adamson's "good" movies, like NURSE SHERRI. I have seen NURSE SHERRI more than once. It is as crappy as Adamson's other movies.
