FIST FULL OF DOLLARS (1964) - Just rented this one and found it to be good, much better than A FEW DOLLARS MORE that seems like some kind of out take that they decided didn't fit into the trilogy.  I've been watching alot of Clint Eastwood westerns lately, because I have never seen any of them from beginning to end.

This is my all time favorite Western after THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY.

A bit of trivia: FISTFUL is a remake of the samurai film YOJIMBO (1961), which was also later remade as THE WARRIOR AND THE SORCERESS.

..and "Omega Doom" and quite a few others...

Interestingly, I've seen both "Omega Doom" and "The Warrior And The Sorceress" but not the much better movies they copied from.  What does that say about me?

It explains why you hang out here, that's for sure!

I've never seen OMEGA DOOM...interesting that its another remake.  May have to give it a look (I have a weakness for both Al Pyun and Rutger Hauer).

Then "Omega Doom" is for you! :)

Hated "Omega Doom" beyond any reasonable limit. Boring piece of s**t... If you want to see a good "Yojimbo" remake watch "Last man standing", a 1990's remake starring Bruce Willis and Chris Walken. It's really worth a look.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Ah yes, that's the other one I was thinking of.  Thanks.

It was directed by Albert Pyun, it had Rutger Hauer....I don't think anyone was defending it as 'good' :)

OMEGA DOOM is available on a 2 flicks on 1 disc DVD with BLIND FURY for $5.88. at Wal-Mart. I've thought about buying it because I kind of liked BF, but even at that price I'd still think I was getting ripped off by the suckiness of OD.

And I'm even odd enough that I actually like the first NEMESIS flick. Does Pyun translate to "pain" in some other language that I'm not aware of.

Compared to it's sequels...the first one was not too bad (hey..it had Tim Thomerson and Bryon James!)

There is an old Dashiell Hammett  Novel from the late 20's called Red Harvest. I'm not sure if Yojimbo(and therefore all the others) is loosely based on this book, but the plot is very similar. And, like Last Man Standing, It takes place in a small city during prohibition, with one lone gun nut setting two rival gangs against each other. It's a pretty good read, check it out.

Everyone has potentially fatal flaws, but yours involve a love of soldiers' wives, an insatiable thirst for whiskey, and the seven weak points in your left ventricle.

Kurosawa, the japanese director of "Yojimbo" was known to make covert adaptations of western literature (some of his historical films may be Shakespeare adaptations from what I've heard), so it is a possibility. About "Last man standing", several reviewers pointed out that the idea of making it like Red Harvest may have been Walter Hill's idea. Who knows, I've read the novel and certainly there are many similarities.

Yes, to what Neville said.. Kurosawa's "Throne of Blood" is the Japanese version of Shakespeare's "Macbeth," and Kurosawa's "Ran" is the Japanese version of Shakespeare's "King Lear." It might also be said that Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress" inspried George Lucas' "Star Wars." Enjoy all the films.

Should have read this before I posted in the remake thread. But seriously, you think 'Last Man Standing' was good? I thought that one was awful. But each to their own opinions, thats why we're here.

Given what I tend to watch, I really never classify movies as "good" or "bad" anymore, but simply "I enjoyed the experience of watching it" or "I did not..."
