I would really like to strangle who ever saids that the oil rig explosion is Obama's Katrina. 1) this is a freak accident, Katrina was a natural disaster 2) Katrina killed more than 10,000 people, the oil rig explosion killed 11 people 3) the city will not shut down cause of this, Katrina did.
yeah no.

I watched The Human Centipede a few hours ago.  What I wouldn't give to have that 90 minutes and $7 back...

I'm with you there, brother.  All hype.  I'll have a review up later today.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

In The Mouth Of Madness is a forgotton gem in my opinion.

It might not be perfect, but it's a lot more intresting than any Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

I just found that my daughter took her diaper off and threw it out of her crib after I put her down for a nap.  Never again will I ignore "UH-OH!" coming from her room... I knew that one sounded legit.

All the Arizona immigration law did was empower Arizona to enforce Federal Laws already on the books.  And the only reason it was done is because the Feds are doing little to nothing to police the border in Arizona.

Yes, it does lend itself to racial profiling.  But how the heck can you have any kind of enforcement against illegal immigration without doing so?  And remember - there is a full scale drug war that has killed 22,000 people in the last three years going on just south of our border, and it is spilling into our country.  I would walk a mile in their shoes before I start throwing rocks.  Their law not a perfect solution, but it is more than the current administration has tried to do.

As far as the Obama/Oil Spill/Katrina connection goes, yes, conservatives are laying on the hyperbole pretty thick to make it sound like this is more his fault than it is.  BUT - is that any worse than those on the left who said that the Bush Administration deliberately dynamited the levees in order to drown more black people?  Or is political hyperbole ONLY acceptable when it comes from the left?

BTW, where did you get the figure of 10,000 killed?  Not saying it ain't so, it's jut more than triple the highest figure I heard bandied about at the time.

I suspect the law is in for a serious constitutional battle.  Not on civil rights issues, although those may also be important, but on the basis of the exclusive Federal power over immigration.  See http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20100428/ts_csm/297367

My old immigration textbook tells me that "Professor Huyen Pham has made a cogent argument that constitutional federal exclusivity in the immigration sphere (not just statutory preemption) prohibits state and local ENFORCEMENT of the immigration laws (not just state lawmaking)."  On the other hand, the drafter of the bill says "The bill adheres to the doctrine of concurrent enforcement – the legal principle that preemption will not be found where a state law prohibits conduct that is already prohibited under federal law." The technical issue will have to be decided in a Federal court.  I would not be at all surprised to see the law struck down on federalism grounds.

Sorry for getting technical, your quote just caught my interest.

No offense taken at all . . . . and that may, indeed, be the ground on which the law is set aside.  However, if the federal government doesn't do something to police the border better, those who live in border states are going to be increasingly angered and marginalized!  It is  a classic bipartisan failure.  Bush actually had a decent plan, one which I supported, and I was angry when my own party shot it down with charges of "amnesty," which it really was not.  At the same time, you get the feeling from some of the current protesters that they seem to feel that America has no right whatsoever to have or enforce immigration laws . . . downright hypocritical, if you consider how harsh Mexico's anti-illegal immigration laws are!
