Some old cassette tapes that used to belong to my dad:

1984 - Van Halen (Pretty good! I'll consider getting more music by them.)

Lets Dance - David Bowie (I definitely want to hear more by him!)

Timepieces: The Best of Eric Clapton - Eric Clapton  (I would like to hear some more by him too.)

Missed my free album of the week post last weekend.  I got this self-titled sampler from the Hoodoo Gurus on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Sampler/dp/B003N1BHMI.  This Australian band is described as 1960s/psychedelia influenced, but mostly it sounds like straight-ahead rock n' roll to me.  My favorite track is "Mind the Spider."

Call me for advice.   I'm good on all three.  :teddyr:

This is tough for me, but I'm doin' it.  It's great for the casual listener... but I got to know RAVEL's solo piano oeuvre from the composer's pupil on the seminal 1961 recordings (minus a few then unpublished pieces).  I have, of course, a couple of versions of the oeuvre as VLADO PERLEMUTER recorded them again in the late 1970s.  I discovered RAVEL more than 30 years ago.  I was very young, but, I understood and appreciated the music immediately.     This is JEAN-YVES THIBAUDET whom I want so badly in my low-road human nature to label a hack, but, he is in fact, a very talented pianist who needs to listen to other pianists to better understand nuance, or Expressionism.  I expect JEAN-YVES is deliberately trying to play RAVEL differently than VLADO PERLEMUTER.  My response would be there is only one way to play any piece of music perfectly.
