Top 25 Animated Movies of All Time

IGN loves doing these lists of movies and games, but this one caught my interest out of them. Most importantly, it is because I've seen a dang majority of all of these films and I know why they would be on here. While I can't say some are good enough for the list (Even though they are already pretty darn good) or some should be ranked differently, I still say they had a lot of great choices here. Though, I can't really agree with 6. I'm sure it is good and all, but I rather boot it off for say, Perfect Blue.

The ranking's a little weird on some of these. I love South Park BTU but I don't think I'd put it *that* high. I love Beauty & the Beast too but it's not # 1. Sleeping Beauty and Mask of the Phantasm should be higher. I agree with you that Perfect Blue deserves a spot; I'd say Secret of Kells belongs too, and An American Tail (they really couldn't show any love for Bluth at all?) and the Jungle Book would make my list - I know Jungle Book doesn't look that great but the story and characters are so excellent. I don't know what I'd kick off of the list for them though. Overall it's a solid selection.
And I know I'll catch hell for this but I have to say I never liked Fantasia. I realize it's a creative and technical triumph but I just could never get into it. None of the narratives really captured my attention and the Stravinsky and Bald Mountain segments gave me nightmares as a kid - the only segment I really love from either Fantasia movie is the Hirschfeld's New York/Rhapsody in Blue bit from F2000.

Did I miss Shrek on the list? How about Disney's Aladdin?

Beauty and The Beast is a fine film annimation and soundtrack wise but #1? Meh...disagree totally. Finding Nemo should be higher up on that list.

I really am beginning to think I am one of few people who dislike Wall-E, Lion King and Nightmare Before Christmas.

Maybe it has something to do with Fantasia being BOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGG!

LOL thanks Flick, I thought I was the only one who thought that about Fantasia.

Now that I think about it, Prince of Egypt should have been on that list too, and maybe Kiki's Delivery Service and Lupin III: the Castle of Cagliostro. Damn, there's too many great animated movies out there!

I am happy Iron Giant made the top 5 though, that movie does not get enough love.

I am glad to see that "The Iron Giant" is on there, but "Grave of the Fireflies" is absent, and that is a glaring omission. Also, I'd expect to see the original "Heavy Metal" and "Wizards." At least one or the other.

Oh, and one of these three: "Light Years," "Fantastic Planet," "The Time Masters."

Not for nothing, but that list should've included Monsters, Inc. Also, why all the love for Nightmare Before Christmas? It's boring.

Also, South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, great movie. Satire, musical numbers, Saddam's love for Skeet Ulrich for some unknown reason, all makes it a top 5 movie in my book.

I would have left out Ratatouille. It looked great but otherwise it didn't do much for me. They could have added Fire and Ice, which wasn't particularliy original but it was still old-fashioned fun. And like someone said Heavy Metal seems like a no-brainer too. I may have even added Cinderella just because who can resist Jacque and Gus Gus?

I'm most disappointed that four filmmakers went unrepresented: Don Bluth, Ralph Bakshi, Satoshi Kon, and Isao Takahata.

-Don Bluth made some great stuff. As ChaosTheory pointed out, noting of his made the list. No NIMH? Land Before Time? Perhaps most deserving, An American Tail?

-I'm a huge Ralph Bakshi fan, and I would go so far to say put Coonskin on this list, but I understand that most people don't quite appreciate the movie the same way I do. Bakshi has made plenty of other enjoyable stuff - Wizards, Heavy Traffic, American Pop. (Didn't really care for Fritz the Cat...)

-As InformationGeek posted to begin with, Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue should be here. Too intense? Millenium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers are also pretty fantastic.

-Miyazaki makes the list twice, but where is his Ghibli partner Isao Takahata? Certainly Grave of the Fireflies belongs in this list. I would put it in the top 5, but I would be fine if they just swapped out Spirited Away for it. Spirited Away is a good movie, but I can't agree it's Miyazaki's best, and it's certainly no Grave

Interesting list - i have seen majority of these movies but i missed several.

Contrary to some previous posters i like their number 1 - it is a very solid choice. A masterpiece in every aspect - animation, story, everything. Easily in my own top 3 - maybe number 1 too.
There are several other things wrong with this list:
1. No Ralph Bakshi. Wizards should be included.
2. Too much Pixar and/or too high on the list. Also see next point.
3. Wall-E is there ? In top 10 ? Wait... as number #2 ? WTF ?
4. Have i missed something or there is no Shrek on the list ?

Im not impressed except their number 1 choice. Overall i saw worse TOP movies lists. I think i did.
