I just came across this awesome bit of nerdom called Star Wars uncut, where people take 15 second clips from Star Wars: A New Hope and recreate them in what ever way they like. Watch for the MST3K gang recreations.

It's kind of cute.  Sort of the same idea as NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: REANIMATED but a lot more amateur.  Interesting to see the styles and actors change every 15 seconds.  I suspect Lucas will never approve of this.  For some reason, I liked seeing Darth Vader with breasts.

Pilgermann

The fully edited version ought to be an extra on the blu-ray set next year.

In my opinion there's no way they'll ever clear the legal hurdles to get this a legitimate release.  The best they can hope for is that no one shuts them down.

Ya the sad thing is your probably right. All those rich A-holes in hollywood are going to want their cut on the profits of some little fan made film. All those people that made those little film clips, helped provide the profits to keep the star wars franchise going so the least all those money hungry hollywood whores could do is let them put out this fan made film. And like Pilgermann suggested they should have this as a extra on the blueray.

The real problem is that you have to get legal clearances from more than just Lucasfilm, as the individuals who made them use other copyrighted/trademarked material in their submissions from a variety of sources.  Each one of the 15 segment sections alone would probably count as fair use, but put all of them together as a commercial project it probably isn't.  On the other hand I don't think Lucas has never tried to crack down on fan films---he knows they help butter his bread---so they'll probably never take any steps to shut it down.

Monster Jungle X-Ray

This is pretty neat, lots of good ideas and humorous used in these. Still I do not see this being released in a complete form due to so many clearances they would have to make.

I can remember seeing a short film in 1986 that was entitled "Too Much Star Wars" iirc that was made by a kid. It took place in his bedroom which of course was completely decked out in Star Wars memorabilia and toys. After he went to sleep all his action figures and vehicles came to life via stop motion animation and attacked him. The lasers were lines drawn or scratched into the film itself. It ended with a life sized Darth Vader coming out of the closet to menace him, and the boy wakes up to find out it was only a dream. Or was it? The Yoda mask on the dresser that winks at the camera tells otherwise.

It was really well done considering it was a teenager who made it, and apparently George Lucas really liked it as well. I have not seen the short ever again, and cannot find any mention of it anywhere online.
