Can't seem to find anything to rent, but here are my upcoming viewings.

Cable Hogue (Western)
Mountain Men (Western)
Purgatory (Western)
Yojimbo (Kurasawa)
Kugemesha (Kurasawa)
Vamp (Grace Jones)
Birth of a Nation (Film History)
John Wayne Films
Basket Case II & III
Puppet Master III & IV
Jason Goes to Hell
Phantasm III (and maybe part II, kinda forgot how that goes)

Searching For These:

El Topo
Django

Dolph Lundgren

I won't be too much help here Scott, but I have seen Basket Case II and Jason Goes to Hell.  I remember surprisingly enjoying Basket Case II, despite it being slammed over at IMDB.com.  Then again, I haven't seen the first Basket Case, which is supposed to be really good.  All I remember about part II (I saw it a long time ago) is that it's campy as hell, but in a funny way.  As for Jason Goes to Hell, I personally wasn't a huge fan, but some people are.  I think the lack of Jason being in the movie is what killed it for me.  The whole body-switching thing didn't fly with me personally, but that's just my opinion.  The beginning of the movie is good, but it goes downhill after that.  Still a decent timewaster, though.

Good luck finding those films to rent.  Do you have a smaller local video store around you that has those movies?  Or are you surrounded by chains?

Cable Hogue is good, but don't expect another Wild Bunch.

I got DJANGO fairly cheaply on EBay.

The Burgomaster

THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE is a very enjoyable, non-violent, Peckinpah film. I highly recommend it.

I saw BIRTH OF A NATION in a film class. Everyone should see it at least once. But beware . . . it is LONG and often SLOW . . . but still fascinating.

John Wayne films - you can't go wrong with these. I just watched THE SONS OF KATIE ELDER over the weekend. It has a great supporting cast including STROTHER MARTIN, JAMES GREGORY, GEORGE KENNEDY (!), and DENNIS HOPPER (!!!!!!!).

BASKET CASE was great. I hated part II and didn't bother watching part III.

Good luck with your viewing . . .

Don't forget Phantasm IV: Oblivion. Shows the origin of the Tall Man and has some interesting developements. I hope DC finally gets around to making a fifth part. Not just to make another movie, but to tie up the loose ends.

I didn't like the first one that much. Maybe it was because I'd heard it described as shocking and disturbing, but the Belial scenes were hilariously bad claymation. It looked like a student film made with Play-Dough.

Hello Nick. My list is based on what I know is available at local video stores. I have a couple small independent video stores near me and a Blockbuster (not much of a selection) and Hollywood Video (this is a good store). My only other options are buying films over the internet or renting from Netflix (good selection).

By the way I just bought a batch of westerns and DJANGO is included.

Dolph Lundgren

Scott,

Yeah, Hollywood Video is a godsend compared to Blockbuster.  A much better selection, at least the one near me has a great selection of old and crappy action movies.  At least you have some small independent places near you - almost all the ones around me have been run out by Blockbuster.  It's a shame, really.

Anyways, I've heard tons of great things about Django.  Let us know how it turns out - I know I might be interested in checking it out 'cuz I've heard so many good things about it.
