So I was checking out the forums on ANN to see if there was any news on Naoki Urasawa's Monster DVD Set 2 when I heard the news about the manga.  Apparently, Viz Media has given up on reprinting it and the volumes are now going out of print everywhere (though it appears you can still buy directly from their site).  So out of curiousity, I checked it and sure enough, Vol. 3, 6, and 8 are gone.  The prices now?  Make sure you are sitting down for this:

Vol. 6 is priced at $101 on barnes and noble! Vol. 8 is being used at a high price of 274 dollars!  Vol. 3 is through the roof though at the insane price of $899.99 on Amazon.  Holy f*****g s**t!!         

Now I own these books and I'm shocked.  If I sold that to the right people, I could possibly make a crap ton of money on softcover books that are barely 200 pages!!  I doubt it, but still!

So how about you guys?  Ever check to see if your stuff is shockingly going for a ton of money online?

I used to sell a lot of stuff (mostly comic books) on eBay, but when the economy went into the crapper people started bidding a lot less money for stuff so I closed my store.  I sold some comics for big money (like AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 and TALES OF SUSPENSE #39).  Years ago when I sold most of my VHS collection on eBay so I could upgrade to DVDs I got decent money for some out-of-print VHS tapes.  I got almost $50 for my used copy of HELL TO ETERNITY with Jeffrey Hunter.  I think I bought it new for $14.95.  I also sold some super 8mm sound movies.  I had 400' (about 18 minute running time) versions of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON and IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE (both in 3-D).  I got about $70 apiece for them.

My father has an electric train set from the early 1950s.  It has an entire village of plastic buildings and telephone poles and stuff.  Some pieces of the village are missing, but the trains are in excellent condition.  I imagine that set is worth a few bucks.

My mother has 6 or 8 cases of 45 RPM records from the 1950s.  A lot of original Elvis Presley, Platters, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, Everly Brothers, etc.  They are also probably worth a few bucks.

I'm a Magic the Gathering player (I love building and playing casual games) and I have a small collection of old cards.

I've own 4 Mana Drains (which I'd paid 30 dollars each at the time are now worth 120 to 150 dollars)... Although the price hasnt change much for almost 10 years.

my recent surprise was finding how much my Dual Lands are going... I have 4th edition ones (although they uses to cost between 5 to 10 dollars) but it seems that the Legacy format has became ultra sucessful and now the 4th edition duals are going between 40 to 100 dollars...  



My wife also got me a Beta Time walk for Christmas a few years ago (I'm not sure what she paid for it... ) its currently worth 1000.00

I have a book of photographs called "Ray's a laugh" that was trendy for a bit in the 90's. The book was discontinued I believe because the guys family didn't like the way they were presented (as horrible alcoholics/ enablers of such) and copies in worse condition than mine go for like 300 bucks on ebay.

  I sell used books on Amazon. The most I ever sold anything for was an autographed hardcover "Chris Clairemont Collection" which contained some of his favorite X-Men stories. I priced it lower than anyone else and still got just over $250 for it.

There's also the opposite - I paid an obnoxious amount of money for the Radioactive Dreams vinyl soundtrack, and it's now worth a lot less.

But, on the plus side, I have quite a few video games that have gone up in value a good deal.  Nothing in the gold mine realm though.

Shenmue II for the Dreamcast - paid $14, at last check it is worth about $50.
I had the black labelled Final Fantasy VII, which I sold for $70.
I have an Atari 2600, 7800, controllers, games, etc, which I bought for $4.  Valued now around $80-$100.
I have a top loader NES I paid $40 for.  Think they're worth close to $100 now.
My old Transformers toys are probably worth about what was originally paid for them (they're all loose, in OK condition). 
I have Yu Yu Hakusho: Makyo Toitsusen for the Genesis.  Cart only, paid about $50 for it, sometimes it sells for $75ish.
Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril is a new NES game that came out a few months ago.  I bought it early, and got the version that has a bug which lets you become invincible.  valued over what I paid.
Pier Solar - not out yet, but it's a new Genesis game that I pre-ordered.  The cartridge run is already sold out, so if the game is quality I suspect it will be worth $75-$100 eventually.  I won't sell it though.

Ha! I've got you all beat. I own the Volume 1, Number 1 issue of the comic book Timmy the Timid Ghost. Last I checked, it was worth upwards of $2! And that was years ago, so it's probably up closer to $3 by now. I could retire on that kind of cash...   

I have a few collectible type things that might be worth something, but I'm too lazy to actually check. I have a full set of Taco Bell's Star Wars toys from the last ep. IV re-release, all still in their wrappers, including one that was recalled as being dangerous. I also have a full set of Animaniacs McDonald's toys, also still in their wrappers. I have no idea if any of these are at all valuable, but they might be.
