HARDtoREACH

these two zombie movies are obviously classics i like them both but which one is better in your opinion.

i like day of the dead for the simple fact of bub and how they try to domesticate him which is pretty ammusing especially when he gets p**sed when the officer doesnt salute him back. but overall its a solid zombie film with tons of gore.

i have my opinion but let me hear all of yours

One thing I've noticed over the years: I've never seen Dawn vs. Day threads started by Dawn fans  :teddyr:
I'll vote for Dawn Of The Dead because it is the better film. I don't hate Day Of The Dead, but it is quite dull. Only saved by great effects and Bub of course.

very true hahaha i like dawn of the dead for the action factor if it wasnt for bub i think day of the dead would be pretty bad

The Gravekeeper

I like them both for different reasons.

To me, Dawn has a bit more of quirky feel. Yes, the bleakness and sense of isolation is still there and they certainly add some depth to what even then was being treated as a very shallow horror sub-genre, but I find that those feelings are slightly undermined by things like zombies having trouble understanding escalators.

I liked the characters quite a lot in both. I did feel some actual concern for their welfare, which is rare for me to do when I'm watching a horror film. The characters in Dawn felt more unified, and it worked for that film. In Day, the stresses between the characters became the foundation for the plot and I felt that we got to see some great characterization and character development come out of that. Also, Rhodes. Gods, I love Rhodes as a character; I'd hate him in real life since I don't tolerate the company of a***oles well at all, but he's a great character to watch.

I watched Day before I watched Dawn so maybe I'm coloured by that.  I like Day better, but only just.  I must admit though that Dawn's ending is AWESOME.  I never understood the hate for Day since it was actually fairly good, some classic moments.  Dawn's probably better the more I think of it, but since Day was my first, you always remember it fondly...  :teddyr:

I have to say Dawn, due to the fact that it is the quintessential zombie film for me.  It has everything I could want in a zombie film, and it's just superb all the way around.  Day is decent, but I would rate it last as far as the original trilogy goes.  Bub was fun, Dr Frankenstein is great, and the military aspect is good....sadly it does drag in parts.  I've found more fondness for it over the past few years but it is still mostly stagnant.

The Burgomaster

I loved DAWN OF THE DEAD.  Saw it in the theater a few times and couldn't get enough of it.  I had high expectations for DAY OF THE DEAD, but was disappointed the first time I saw it.  Over the years it has grown on me with each additional viewing.  But I still prefer DAWN OF THE DEAD.  I think the characters in DAWN are more interesting and I was really rooting for them.  Plus, the shopping mall setting was cool.

I love Dawn of the Dead!!! best zombie movie ever!!!

I'm disappointed with Day of the Dead since it wasnt the 'original' intention but a quick rewrite and i'm also annoyed by the soldiers. Although I cannot say I hate the movie as much as I hate Phantom Menace or Godfather 3 and the reason why because of one scene the movie actually inspired a form of zombie killing in my book... also the original concept in Day of the Dead was also inspired in my book... [for those that didnt know, the original intent was to have mind controlled zombies vs free roaming zombies]

Yeah, Day did drag on in parts, and some of the music (like that Jamaican style music) was a bit out of place.  What was largely in it's favor was the over-the-top (and exponentially improved) gore FX that put it some shelves above Dawn in those terms. Noone seen this one comin'....

Bub was cool, what can you say?  :bouncegiggle:     Lastly, the "idealism vs. cold hard truth" was the perfect vehicle for Joe Pilato to go off as the lunatic Capt. Rhodes. He was something else, and watching him was fun with his over-the-top tirades. Day definitely had it's moments.

Dawn was much better all around.  Day was pretty dull and had some good concepts that weren't very deeply explored.  The acting was not nearly as good.  I was pretty disappointed.
