Caught the tail end of this one over the weekend.

Quotes from the wife:

"This CGI is terrible.  The sharktopus is shiny.  Sharks aren't shiny.  They didn't bother to put any texture on him.  Wtf?"

"If neither sharks nor octopi can walk on land....."

"Why did he have to take his shirt off to go fight the sharktopus?"

"How does a 40 foot sharktopus creep up on a swimmer in a river that's 4 feet deep?"

"Does she know she's supposed to be getting eaten by a sharktopus right now?  She doesn't seem to have noticed..."

"How many Sci-Fi channel movies are going to beat this 'overzealous camera crew gets ironically eaten' theme to death?"  (I made her watch Komodo vs Cobra recently)

From my 16 year old daughter:

"That movie was cheesier than Switzerland!!!"
"I shall smite you in the nostrils with a rod of iron, and wax your spleen with Efferdent!!"

I've been filming Fantastic Fest events at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin Texas and Roger Corman received their Lifetime Achievement award at the theatre premiere of Sharktopus. When asked about the origin of the film, Corman basically said that Syfy called him and said "we've got a new film for you called "Sharktopus." Corman then asked "What's a Sharktopus?" and they said "that's for you to decide - we have the title, you make the film." So he called the director, asked him to go to Mexico the next day to make the film, and that's it. Corman said Syfy said previous films "Dinocroc" and "Dinoshark" had good 'ratings' and they decided on the title before they even knew what the hell it was about. Classic.

Also, Corman was entertaining new ideas for his next beast hybrid film. The interviewer at Fantastic Fest suggested 'humpback bear,' which I find infinitely humorous
