Sad to here this.  :bluesad:

Her June Clever somehow seem to have a bit more bite than most of the TV moms at that time.

Of course, she'll also be remembered forever for this bit:

RIP, Mrs. Clever.
If you're an Andy Milligan fan there's no hope for you.

Good Night BARBARA, you will never be forgotten as long as children have moms.  :bluesad:

Good night, Mrs. Cleaver.  You touched  a great many lives.

You got that one right, Indy. I'm tearing up as I write this.

I raise my glass to the kindest, gentlest and sweetest TV mom that ever lived.  And
may I also toast Hugh Beaumont for his role as the father every kid wished he had (myself included.) The last great American TV parents (America being the key word.)

Leave It To Beaver was the ultimate TV show for family values, and will always be. This is truly the end of an era.  God bless you, Ms. Billingsley  :bluesad:

Thanks for that.  I know Wally and " The Beav" are still out there, as well as Ken Osmond (Eddie Haskell) and maybe Frank Bank ( Lumpy Rutherford) and a few other guys.

In terms of the end of an era, I meant more in terms of the fine art of being a TV mom.

Sure, June Lockhart and Marion Ross are still going strong, as are Karen Grassle and the ever bubbly and happy Florence Henderson,  but Barbara nailed the role better than anyone else.

She had that touch that was transcendent in many ways.

Who didn't cry when she sat Beaver on her knee, and explained life to him, as that gentle classical version of the show's themesong played in the background?  The show took extra special care to particularize the tender years in way that just made you so warm inside.  If you were a kid, you just ate it up, and if you were an adult,  you took the trip all over again.
