QuoteI predict this new series will have about the same level of success as the 1988 one.

That is to say, more than the original?  The 1988 one lasted three seasons to the original series two - which amazes me, as I barely remember it.  The Munsters just somehow managed to get more popular after they were canceled in reruns.

Good point: if you measure success in terms of the length of the run rather than the pop cultural impact, the remake series was more successful.

Let's not forget DVD releases. Both seasons of The Munsters have been out on DVD for some time. Meanwhile, The Munsters Today haven't received so much as a news item over at TVShowsOnDVD.com.

If it's the original series you speak of, that more than drives home the point about which series is and always will be more popular.  No matter what is remade, (or how) people never forget the originals. And ultimately, I think DVD companies know this.  If they're going to release something, they know the originals are the way to go.

"The addams family" was a lot better. Someone ought to remake that IF they have to remake something...

That was done too. Not as good as the original, but not as bad as you might expect. . Low budget and no familiar names. Also aimed more at kids, so no quite as dark as the original. For what it was, I thought it was OK. I mean, nobody comes close to John Astin, Jackie Coogan or Ted Cassidy in their roles, but the casting didn't leave me scratching my head the way John Schuck as Herman Munster did.

There have also been a couple of animated shows and a TV movie with the original cast in the 1970s.

I'll drink to that one  Carolyn Jones had some serious curvature in that skin-tight dress, and the original actors were just so wonderfully creepy and yet so loveable. It's hard to explain, but you and the rest of us know what I mean, as we have all seen the original series.  And noone comes close to Ted Cassidy as Lurch.

This is the first time I heard of the 1988 version.  :drink: :buggedout:

Hopefully things fall through and it doesn't happen.  *Crosses fingers*.

Can't be any worse than this other remake.  Slightly unrelated as it's The Addams Family but this terrible terrible theme song set up an even worse remake series.

Werd, homes. I can't imagine anyone else other than Fred Gwynne singing Dry Bones in the classic episode, "Will Success Spoil Herman Munster?"   That was a classic!

I just saw some Munsters (and Addams Family) re-runs on tv on Halloween.  Didn't get to see them all, as I have to work 6 days a week, and Sunday I work double-shifts.

But I don't think anyone can match the team of Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis.

I guess NBC wants to remake The Munsters. They're getting Bryan Fuller from Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls involved. Hmmm...

The big question is, when will they finally remake Diff'rnt Strokes?

Ugh, there goes lunch...

I swear, if they had to remake a series why not "the addams family" instead of it's insipid ripoff?

If they're gonna remake any series, why not B.J. and The Bear?

Tis is true.

Could be worse.  Could be a Brady Bunch remake. :buggedout:
