Brother Ragnarok

Since I love making "Top whatever" lists, what five CD's would you have on that island, because you've discovered that palm tree has a CD drive and speakers in the coconuts.
Feel free not to respond because this is stupid and derivative.

1.  Clutch - Pure Rock Fury
2.  The Pogues - Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash
3.  Devin Townsend - Terria
4.  White Zombie - Astrocreep 2000
5.  Tanglefoot - The Music In the Wood

Brother R

There are only two important things in life - monsters and hot chicks.
    - Rob Zombie
Rape is just cause for murdering.
    - Strapping Young Lad

Pete B6K

Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
Sick of it All - Built to Last
Iggy & The Stooges - Raw Power
Wesley Willis - Greatest Hits 2
Tracy Chapman - s/t

It's pretty hard for me to make top 5 music lists, I'd feel more comfortable with liek a top 50 list, but right now those are the five I'm thinking would be best.

Pete

Evan3

1) Batman Forever Soundtrack
2) Linkin Park Hybrid Theory
3) Green Day- Intl. Hits
4) Michelle Branch - Soul Room

and

5) a tape recording of the Neverending Story, because it will be awhile til I am rescued and that damnm story never ends

but  if it has to be music

5) The Beatles White Album

An album or two of the Beatles is definitely required to keep sane on a deserted island. However, I feel that after hearing "Help!" or "Back in the USSR" for the nth time (yes, 'nth' is a word..... it's used in my crosswords) I would want to break the CD. My choices will need to be a little deviant from normal, and would probably mostly be "best of" CD's.

The Best of Fleetwood Mac
Bach's Greatest Hits
"Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" Smashing Pumpkins
Beatles "White Album"
Best of Roy Orbison

Sorry if the "best of" route is kind of a cop out, but it seems to be the only way I can really get all of what I really want. Kind of like trimming the fat off of lotsa sides of meat, and throwing the good stuff all into a processor to be the best of the best. Runners up include Michael Jackson, Radiohead, Bela Felck and the Flecktones, Ella Fitzgerald, and Frank Sinatra. In fact, I'd be real tempted to switch the Smashing Pumpkins with Sinatra. No offense to Billy, it's just... I mean, it's Sinatra. You can't beat that man's voice!!!

There are some CDs that are almost "greatest hits" collections all by themselves.

Def Leppard's "Hysteria"
Billy Joel's "Stormfront"
Mary Chapin Carpenter's "Come on Come on"
The first Traveling Wilbury's album
And, yes, a number of The Beatle's fit in here nicely

If I get to pick among the greatest hits, then Blue Oyster Cult's "Workshop of the Telescopes" collection would be a definite.

Hm...I feel I should amend my list with a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds record, either No More Shall We Part or the new Nocturama, but I don't know what I'd replace with either of those...
Dammit, this is harder than I thought.

pink floyd- wish you were here
saviour machine- legend part II
in flames- colony
iron maiden- a live dead one
sonic youth- 1000 leaves

Dolph Lundgren

Great topic, Ragnarok.  Here's mine:

1.  Pearl Jam - Ten
2.  Feeder - Polythene
3.  Live - Throwing Copper
4.  Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
5.  Stone Temple Pilots - Core

God, that was tougher than I thought.  Of course I'd have to include a lot more, but that's my top 5.

Brother Ragnarok

Holy s**t, someone else who knows about Saviour Machine!  Very cool band.  I only have Legend I, and now I guess I have a reason to get the second one.

legend part two is easily one of the best albums i have ever heard...its so weird but yet amazing in its own way

part three is awesome too...but i think the second is still the best.  both parts two and three blow the first one away.

Vermin Boy

"Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliars" - The Firesign Theatre
"Mink Car" - They Might Be Giants
"Prairie Home Invasion" - Jello Biafra & Mojo Nixon
"History of the Bonzos" - The Bonzo Dog (Doo-Dah) Band
Some Zappa (probably either Absolutely Free, We're Only In it for the Money, or Strictly Commercial)

Hmm,

Definitely a Beatles album, either the White Album or the Red or Blue "best of" early or later stuff.
Pink Floyd "The Wall"
(yeah, I'm cramming a lot of double albums in, so what)
A Billy Holiday record,
Beethoven's Ninth, possibly done by the Berlin Philharmonic
(gotta get some different types of music in)
and grab something from Muddy Waters, BB King, or Sonny Boy Williamson.

hmm, on further reflection, Nirvana's greatest hits would be nice on the island, I think by the end, you could really start relating to Cobain's insanity before u were rescued. Its also good music too.

Plus, screw Back and Mozart, as a history minor I can tell you that the best classical composer is Tchaikovsky, followed closely by Phillip Glass (which would also be a good CD for the island...)
