Nutcracker 3D - Worst Movie of 2010??

So, this is interesting, I was reading an article on Yahoo about the film Nutcracker 3D which was just released (dunno if it's playing in my area or not.)  And, so far, the reviews have not been positive.  Article title even uses the word "Horrible" to describe it.

Wow... I have to say, I'm surprised.  I saw the trailer for this film on a recent movie I rented (think Iron Man 2 but I'm not sure) and it kind of looked like it'd be a good family film, lots of action, good vs evil, the classic Nutcracker story, even had Elle Fanning (Dakota's little sister) as the main character.   (Yeah, the "rat noses" on the bad guys looked cheesy as hell, but still.)

Among the films contents, the article states, it includes, "There's also singing and dancing. A little kung fu. An electrocuted shark and at least one beheading."  Perhaps maybe the film's a bit too dark for something based on a classic Christmas story?

Dunno, but it'll be interesting if it falls under the "critics hated it but it later developed a cult following" a la The Black Cauldron, or a "Everyone hated it, and it was quickly forgotten" like Delgo.  (Which, come to think of it, did that film EVER get a DVD release?)

Checked Netflix, and yes, it did.

Anyway, thoughts?

Here's the trailer, if anyone's interested.

It looks like it would be fun.  I guess for the critics to like it it would need older hotter female actress , female nudity   and lots of explosions   .

I would watch.  Might be a little to intense for my young ones, but something my wife and I could enjoy.

I heard about this too and I'm rather curious.  Could this possibly be worst than The Last Airbender?  My my, this is a rather interesting turn of events.  I'll keep an eye on this for future events.

even had Elle Fanning (Dakota's little sister) as the main character.

Ah ha!  I thought the girl looked familiar.  She looks just like her sister when she was in The Cat in the Hat!

At the moment it's got a perfect 0% positive out of 19 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes  :teddyr:

I had my eye one it.  I wish it would play around here, but I'll probably have to wait for DVD.

This review from the San Francisco Chronicle got me interested: ". Imagine watching Tchaikovsky's ballet after taking a handful of peyote - on a day when all of the dancers call in sick and the orchestra decides to play a different set of the composer's works... with all of its abstract strangeness, it's also possible to imagine a strong following 30 years from now. Audiences didn't know what to think about the unsettling weirdness of Jim Henson's 'The Dark Crystal' or Walter Murch's 'Return to Oz' either when they came out in the 1980s."

I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

Wow! Just Wow! After a year of remakes and sequels, I certainly look forward to seeing this, even if it is something of a remake in itself. So, I'll just have to watch and see if it comes to the city where I live.

For not only will I see it, as I find it interesting in and of itself, but I might even enjoy it, if it is half as enjoyable as either "The Dark Crystal" and/or "Return to Oz," which I both liked quite alot.

Thanks for the heads up, BTM.

So, wait, they took out the graceful dances and gorgeous music and left in bits of the story? Even though the dancing and the music were the reasons people went to see the ballet in the first place?

Eh. I might rent it. It could be interesting in a weird abstract kind of way, or it could make for some fun riffing material.

That trailer makes it look awful.  Not a single note works in it.  Just awful.  It looks like one of those bad ultra low budget Christmas family films that used to go straight to video in the early 90s got a $50 million dollar budget.

Time to bring this topic back!  Guess what?  It has finally hit DVD and should be onDemand.  I haven't seen it yet, but will at some point.  I'm thinking it could be my Christmas movie review.

So until I see it, anyone else want to get in on the suck and see what it's like?

InfoGeek, I saw that NUTCRACKER 3D had been released (under a new title---coincidence?), and I immediately thought of you as the person who should take one for the team and watch this atrocity.

Wow. I forgot all about this from last year. I never watched the posted trailer and I just did. That looks bad beyond words. I'm glad they changed the title so as not to sully the name of a traditional holiday ballet that I happen to enjoy (say what you will). I never saw The Last Airbender because it looked so bad and because I trusted the negative press. This looks every bit as bad as that, if not worse.

OH!  I'm soooo honored that you thought I be the right guy to see this.   :tongueout:  You know, thinking about it, I'm pretty the only one on this site without a kid who is willing to watch a crappy kids movie (how else do I explain watching the animated Titanic films, Standing Ovation, and now this).

I'll be the judge of that!

Also, the movie is still currently holding at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes with a total of 29 reviews.  Ouch.

It's still THE NUTCRACKER, they just changed it from THE NUTCRACKER 3D to THE NUTCRACKER: THE UNTOLD STORY.

IMDB suggests this cost $90 million to make, and raked in a mighty $200,000 at the box office  :buggedout:.
