Cheap and simple also seems to be the mindset that the industry assumes most of the viewers adhere to, and in a way it's also insulting to think so.  Not everyone's going to just sit down and watch whatever Syfy throws at them. 

Excellent point, there comes a time when even those who can't resist laughing at bad jokes and terrible special effects wants to see something better.  Beyond that story is important.  I think most people here, while they enjoy camp and laugh with unintentional comedy, would like to see a well written and engaging story.
