Wyrewizard started a thread in good movies about movies with ghosts, but when I skimmed it I thought it said movies about wizards. What are some good (or bad) movies about wizards?

I can't think of one.

It's a Ralph Bakshi animated feature, mixing fantasy and sci-fi. Think of the sword and sorcery genre set in a post-apocalyptic backdrop. I'm not a big Bakshi fan, but it's kind of a classic, but it's been so long since I've seen it I couldn't give you an honest answer on good vs. bad. It's got an interesting look and feel.

It was exactly what the trailer makes it look like.  Uber-cheesy.

Not a real "wizard" movie but "The Wizard of Speed and Time" is AWESOME. its a comedy about a down on his luck special effects guy who is trying to break into the industry. Top notch 80's digital and stop motion effects, lots of fun.

Umaril The Unfeathered

Hawk The Slayer which was from the mid 1970's. It starred Jack Palance as an evil warrior trying to get a sword from his brother, Hawk, if I remember right. I do believe there was some wizardry in that one.

Disney's Dragonslayer with Sir Ralph Richardson as the wizard who helps a young Peter MacNicol fight an evil dragon.  This one is still my favorite of all the early 80's wizard movies. The dragon was just too awesome!!!

And just for the heck of it, it's not a movie, but the old Bally-Midway game Wizard Of Wor was always one of my favorite games. Anyone remember the good old Wizard and his synthesized speech? Great game!

I just watched this a week ago, and Andrew has a review on this site. There's a witch in it who gets up to some amazing low-budget sorcery. The silly string and glowing ping-pong balls were particular favorites of mine.

Obviously, the Lord of the Rings movies fit this bill.

The Warlock movies have a warlock in them. Not high fantasy, but sort of a wizard.

Back to Hawk the Slayer, there was a spate of low-budget fantasy movies in the '80s, such as Beastmaster. No real wizards in that one, but some "handsome" witches performing a bit of wizardry.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

How could I forget  Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders     I don't think there's much wizardry going on, just an old guy and a kid walking around town.

There's also Merlin's Apprentice (2006) starring Sam Neil.  It was a TV miniseries.  I um...wouldn't exactly recommend it.

The Sci-Fi Channel made some miniseries that was a crummy ripoff of Harry Potter, but I'll be darned if I can remember the name of it.
