Another interesting site for bad (and good) movie collectors

The Burgomaster

I just discovered site this yesterday.  It offers some interesting obscurities on DVD and DVD-R:

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

The Burgomaster

Maybe NOT such a good site.  I submitted a $200 order 2 1/2 weeks ago and have not received it yet.  Not a big deal that I haven't received the order . . . I can understand it might take awhile to fill an order for 20+ movies, but I've sent three e-mails asking about the status of the order and all these e-mails have been ignored.  Info about my order on the website says "ready to ship" . . . but it says this every time I look with no expected shipping date or anything.  Would it kill the guy to take 10 seconds to respond to my e-mails?  He's p**sing away hundreds of dollars in potential future business from me.  And that's the end of my rant.  Thank you all for coming.

I like how we all know these companies are just a person, why do these bootleggers ever bother with coming up with an official name and trailers before the film? It's nice and creative, but we all know it's ran by one dude on their super-PC.

The only place I can get 'Tales from the Crypt' in region 2 is on eBay but I have decided not to by them as I can't get the seller to contact me.

Now I've sent 3 e-mails and left a voicemail message with no response.  I will be calling my credit card company to block charges from this vendor if he doesn't respond by this afternoon.  Luckily, it looks like he hasn't charged my credit card yet.  Beware, my friends!

After browsing through this site, I found this in the help section:
QuoteFor your convenience we accept the following credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. PAYPAL is also ecepted.

I love the little typo there.  You know a site is super high quality when there are typos in the help section! :teddyr:

I should have investigated this site before placing an order.  I saw some blogs online going back to 2001 complaining about this guy.  Amazing that he still has his website up and running after a decade of shoddy service.  I just canceled my order and notified my credit card company that I intend to dispute any charges that may come through from this vendor.

The problem I found with DVD-R "do it yourself" companies is that they are so god damned hit or miss. The best company (IMO) used to be Screamatorium. The guy who ran it used high-quality DVD-Rs, included a case with color art, and the disc had full color artwork as well. The discs also had full menus and trailers for other films. And get this, they were only $10 each (shipped) and when you buy 4 you get 1 free.

Unfortunately, Screamatorium closed up shop. I've yet to find a DVD-R company that rivals that quality for that price.  :bluesad:

I wish you luck and I hope he doesn't give you any more grief!

Maybe there should be a board or sticky thread on here devoted to reviews about online movie vendors.  Something that, if you find a site that looks really good, you can post asking if people have ever ordered from it, or recommendations and stuff.  Just a thought...

The best one I use is Cinema de Bizarre.  Friendly, quick turnaround time, reasonable prices  (most movies are $9.99 - - $7.99 if you don't want boxes with cover art - - and they give you a free movie for every 2 you buy . . . so they end up averaging about $7 apiece if you buy the $9.99 ones and figure in the freebies).  They even put a small piece of bubble paper inside each DVD case so the disc won't fall off the spindle and get scratched during shipping.  They also provide a quality rating for each movie (with "A" meaning it has factory disc quality, stuff in the "B" range is about average VHS quality, "C" and lower generally mean scratchy picture, washed out colors, etc.)  I never bought anything below a "B-" form them and I think their ratings are very accurate.

Video Search of Miami is pretty good, but they don't include cover art with their movies . . . just plain cases.

Something Weird is also pretty good, but they tend to have a longer turnaround time for DVD-Rs.

So far, I have had problems with STUMPY DISKS and LUMINOUS.  I won't be dealing with them again.

I also just discovered this one http://www.superstrangevideo.com/index.asp.  Pretty pricey ($20 per movie, with some volume discounts), but they have a great selection.  Haven't purchased anything yet . . .

I paid through PayPal, then couldn't get in touch with the guy.  I filed a dispute through PayPal and some other guy who said he shared a PayPal account with the Stumpy Discs guy contacted me and said the Stumpy Discs guy was in Europe or something.  The other guy said he would try to find the discs and ship them to me, but he never did.  I never got any kind of communication from the Stumpy Discs guy . . . no explanation or apology or anything.  Eventually, he refunded my money with no further communication.  I'm glad I got my money back, but I really wanted the movies instead.  The fact that I got ZERO communication from the guy is the main reason I won't do business with him again.

I've thought about trying out Stumpy Disk, since they have a great collection, but afraid of getting burnt.

I also just discovered this one http://www.superstrangevideo.com/index.asp.

I see they have the Rhodesian / German film The Whispering Death on there: I have wanted to see that for many years. A truly chilling tale of revenge in the book ~ I don't know what the film is like ~ but the crazed policeman chasing the terrorist tells his prey "Run. Every time you stop running, I'll put another bullet in you. There are many, many bullets."  :buggedout: :buggedout:
