hi
I have two questions to ask of you.
Do you have a particular good luck charm that you carry around with you?
Have you got a favourite toy or something else that you have kept since you was a child?
I always carry a picture of my son with me wherever i go,when i feel depressed or angry i look at the picture and things always seem to work out.

My dad bought me this old stuffed toy of a lion on the day i was born ,i still have this toy and if i go on holiday i insist on taking it with me.

what are yours?
GEEZ! I NEVER REALISED A BRAIN WEIGHED SO MUCH.
WHY HAVE YOU GOT A KNIFE IN YOUR HAND? I HAVEN'T IT'S IN YOUR CHEST.
A MARATHON! MY WIFE COULDN'T RUN A BATH WITHOUT FEELING TIRED.

The only thing I keep around since my childhood is a camouflage wallet my father gave me for my birthday back in 1987. I still use it. There are lots of 1980s memories inside my wallet, like a few handwritten notes of videos we wanted to rent back then. Or three old video rental membership cards expired in 1989/1990/1991.
Also in my wallet: several ancient sales slips that have a special meaning, old Army I.D. cards, a one-dollar bill with the date 12-20-88 written on it by myself on that very day, notes with phone numbers I don't know, several pictures of my nephews and nieces and lots of other stuff.
Whenever I'm in the mood for a walk down memory lane I just go through my wallet  :teddyr:

No good luck charms. Usta have a copper AA coin-but I lost it-not too lucky,I guess.
I have 1 thing from my childhood. Waaaay back in 1970,when I was 8,we moved from a trailer park into an old farmhouse on a dead end road. In the upstairs bedroom, there was a box of old toys. A teddy bear with no eyes,a collection of tin soldiers,a top-and a cast iron penny bank. It's a squirell standing on his hind legs holding an acorn. I STILL HAVE IT. I took it to an antique place once...not worth much, but it's from the 1920's or 30's.
I wish I still had the collection of comicbooks from the 40's and 50's that were in the old writing desk....old Superman,Batman,Detective, westerns and war,Classic Illustrated....sigh.... :bluesad:

I've have this above my wardrobe and some Real Ghostbusters action figures tucked away in a chest of drawers.

My Egon has his tie snapped off just like this pic. Glad I wasn't the only one.

When I "graduated" daycare my brother gave me a graduation Smurf mini-figure.  I gave it to my oldest son recently when he graduated his first years of daycare.

Umaril The Unfeathered

This is really hard for me to write, but a toy isn't a toy until it's been loved, and this toy was very loved.

When I was 5, I got a talking Bugs Bunny doll.  He said "What's Up Doc" and "Now, Hold Me Tight" and a few more things.  In 1987, after having him for almost 18 years, I gave him up to my 3 year-old cousin, Melinda, who was being treated for leukemia.

How she lit up when I gave it to her, and her mother said she took it with her everywhere she went, even though he could no longer talk and he was a bit frazzled and worn from the years.

Sadly, Melinda passed away the next year. Ironically, her mother, my cousin Nancy, also passed away about 5 years ago from breast cancer.

But at least, for a brief time, that doll got the same love that I gave it (and maybe more) and to this day, it's hard for me to think about the doll w\o getting teared up.

I'm sorry to have brought the mood down a bit, but not all stories are happy ones. I'm sure there's some happier stories to be had as this thread develops, but thanks for listening nonetheless.

Around 1990 or so, my family including me emptied my father's apartment when he went in a veteran's hospital, and took an axe, a sledehammer, and a saw to all these old pieces of furniture that we had to "get rid of..."   I did most of the work.  :bluesad:

Killer Bees

The oldest thing I think I have is a Matilda stuffed kangaroo from the 1984 Commonwealth Gams here in Brisbane.  I have a silver ring shaped like a fairy that wear every day.  Not sure if it's a good luck charm but I feel naked without it.

And I usually carry my tarot cards wherever I go.  They are in a green silk drawstring bag with a light green two headed Celtic cat design embroidered on the front and the traditional Celtic knot design along the bottom

Bring back what once was mine

I also still have my first teddy: a very old, moth eaten bear with one missing eye but he's been with me for nearly 44 years. I called him 'Toddy' and still do ~ he went to Cape Town with me last year.  :teddyr:

I have one too - he was given to me before I was born, so he is 53 this spring - balding in places and missing an eye and much-loved!

Wait a minute: that's me you're describing there, except the missing eye, that is.
