Request for objective opinion

I receive lots link requests.   If I traded with everyone who asked, I think the links section would quickly become too large to be of use.  That is one of the reasons I stopped trading with horror genre sites and began sticking to only b-movie focused ones.

For new sites, I pretty much delay replying for about 2 weeks (sometimes up to a month) to see if they continue updating.  A huge number of sites go up, are updated once or twice, and are then abandoned.  If I am unsure of the site after the month period, I send a polite email declining the link trade.

My site is not inherently better than others, but I do want to make it the best I can do and am willing to devote the effort.  I guess my question is:  am I being unfair?  Is there a better way?  Would you rather see more links or is the present system good to go?

I think the present system is great Andrew, too many links really crowds a site and also is bad for people with short attention spans.

One thought, could u make it on the message board where you can search for posts made by particular people (like a name search) that would rock. Thanks.

Already built in by the fine folks who designed the program.  If you pick "search" from the small menu bar, then put a check in "Author" (and remove the marks from the other two boxes) you can put in the poster's name and get their posts listed.  Here is a listing for "Andrew:"

Of course, other names with "Andrew" come up too, like "Andrew Crow."  Unfortunately, I probably will not have time to tweak the code to search on a specific user ID.  Maybe the Phorum developers will include that in the next big version of the message board (5.0 is in development right now).

I agree, many links isn't better, it just  makes things more confusing, and if most of them go to dead sites, then no one will rely on any of the links.

I also feel  that a small number of links to quality, regularly-updated sites are better than a huge number of links to half-assed, eventually neglected sites.

Sounds like a thought out plan to me. Thanks for giving a rip.

Speaking as one who was graced with a link from Andrew, we do our best to keep our site updated with some regularity and most importantly to make it entertaining and worth repeat visits.
I think that system of link trading sounds like a fair plan and I'm glad we were up to snuff to get one ourselves.

I've always been a quality over quantity type myself so any effort at keeping things to a smaller but superior sample gets my approval

Andrew

I will keep on with the present system.
