I stood with our entire secondary student body today and watched as a fallen U.S. Army Sargeant was brought home from Afghanistan. We lined the curb with hands over our hearts to show respect.  The "Patriot Guard" (a volunteer group of veterans who are bikers) was riding escort, and it seemed like the whole town turned out to pay their respects.
  Unlike Lester, I don't hate those who order our soldiers into combat.  I actually believe that America can be and has been a force for good in the world.  My respect for all those who have served our country in uniform knows no bounds.  Our current struggle is truly a case of good versus evil.

War is hell.  Everyone knows that, or should.
But peace that allows evil to go unopposed is far, far worse.

I'd like to add Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker to the list. His whole Budget Repair bill to get the state of of debt, a debt he created, strips collective bargaining for most public employees save local law enforcement and fire employees, and state troopers and inspectors in my state. The only good thing him and his bill is that it has given me a lot to write about for my newspaper.

Walker and his allies pushed through $140 million in new spending for special-interest groups in January. If the Legislature were simply to rescind Walker's new spending schemes -- or delay their implementation until they are offset by fresh revenues -- the "crisis" would not exist.

Walker did not inherit a budget that required a repair bill.
