Happy St. Pat's everybody!

For some reason St. Patrick's Day is HUGE here. They are anticipating a crowd of some 400,000 this year - in a town's who's downtown population is about 75,000.

I'm Irish on my Mom's side. I'm German on my Dads's. I'm a lot like my Dad in terms of personality and biology. I'm so damn German it hurts. My name is Austin Bauer. Both names are very German. Also my personal obsession when it comes to movies are German Expressionist sets and films. You know, like Tim Burton films.

I'm a German/Irish mutt, but my wife's straight from the Emerald Isle. St. Pat's really isn't a big deal in Ireland. Oh, and they don't eat corned beef there either. Corned beef was popularized by poor Irish immigrants for whom corned beef was a cheap substitute for bacon.

Anyway, I spent mine setting up our new HD equipment and drinking Guinness. Ah, lovely, lovely Guinness.

Yes, my mother has advised for decades that they eat cabbage and bacon, not corned beef, in Ireland. She additionally advises that corned beef is Jewish and picked up by the Irish immigrant as you pointed out, because it was cheap.
