Quote from: The Burgomaster on March 21, 2011, 12:48:05 PM* THE BRADY BUNCH - The blueprint for 1970s TV cheese.

Not to mention giving us all the illusion that family problems can be solved in a half hour or less. And, if most of us guys back then daid we weren't waiting for an upskirt shot from Marcia, OR a shot down her blouse when she bent over, we'd be lying thru our teeth

Quote from: The Burgomaster on March 21, 2011, 12:48:05 PM* HAPPY DAYS - Season 1, when it was a pretty good nostalgic look at the 1950s.  Subsequent seasons were nothing more than increasingly lame sitcoms that could have taken place in any era and generally were not specifically related to the 1950s.

True, but I think the main point of that was to show that all manner of problems existed within any family unit regardless of the time that family existed. But there was much more going on in the real 50's than the show let on, I agree.

Quote from: The Burgomaster on March 21, 2011, 12:48:05 PM* COPS - I can watch those weird people getting dragged out from under crack house porches over and over again and never get tired of it.

Any time our police can get more of that poison off the streets, and have greater penalties for those who have and sell it to our kids, more power to them.

* LAND OF THE GIANTS - I have the whole series (one season) on DVD.  You gotta love those giant rubber hands!

One of Irwin Allen's higher budget shows, which I think killed it.  There again, it wasn't like Lost In Space where many props from his other shows could be effectively used to portray a proper size proportionate to normal sized actors, thereby saving money in the process.

LOTG specifically needed larger props and greater camerawork to portray the size of the situation (to put it mildly, lol)  and I think the show's budget became impossible to maintain because of it.

Lastly, I was 7 in 1971 when it went off TV and remember it fondly.  Great post!

The Joy of Painting w/ Bob Ross. (I could watch and listen to this man all day.)

Bill Nye the Science Guy. (I love science!)

Gilligan's Island. (I'm not joking, I know all the lines from every episode.)

Aqua Teen Hunger Force. (This is a show that fits my taste, I love the humor!)

Shin Chan. (Best cartoon ever, the humor is sick.)

The Three Stooges. (I could watch them all day lol.)

I really like Two and a Half Men.

My favourite character is Evelyn, Charlie and Alan's mother.  She is an absolute cracker.  My mum used to be exactly the same as her (minus the posh job and all the money).  But the thinly veiled personal insults, the perfect clothes, hair and makeup, the disdain for her kids, the withering looks, the arrogance and self absorbtion and her ultimate confidence in reducing men to blubbering rubble are exactly the same.

Mum is 63 now and mellowed a lot.  She even wears jeans!  :teddyr:  But my sister and I sit there and howl with laughter at Evelyn's antics and we say to mum, "OMG she's just like you".

Agreed, this TV show is a real hoot when the sh*t starts hitting the fan and everyone goes to town to satisfy their selfish needs.  It's always funny from start to finish.

Spongebob - I liked it when it first came out, and then I stopped watching it for many years and claimed I didn't like it, but since my daughter has started to watch it I f'n LOVE it!  It's SO funny!  My friends still think it's stupid but I'm sure it's because they haven't sat and watched it.  Adam West and Ernest Borgnine do voices for Mermaid Man!  And Dauber from Coach is Patrick!

iCarly - I don't really feel guilty about it, I really like it!  It's just a little embarrassing to tell my friends that it's on because I like it, not because I didn't change the channel after Spongebob.

Hot in Cleveland - My husband started DVRing this for me as a joke because I love The Golden Girls, and then I started watching it thinking I wouldn't like it because I'm not really into most sitcoms.. but it's pretty funny!  So I never stopped it from recording.

I really don't like reality TV, but I did watch a couple seasons of Flavor of Love and The Girls Next Door (the ones with Holly, not the ones with the twins).  I have no excuse for these, except maybe that I have a girl crush on Bridget.

I saw wayyy too many shows like this when I was a kid ~ one of the ones I most remember was the Australian series The Lost Islands with its' creepy purple masked villain named Q.  :buggedout:

For some stupid reason, it is only available on DVD in France and Israel.

KB: do you remember The Rovers?

The rovers, the rovers, follow the wandering star, the rovers, the rovers, wherever the four winds run...... great theme. I remember Dad having to tell me what the guy was looking through in the credits ~ it was a 16mm camera  ~ and why the bird was pooping on the Captain's shoulder and why was there a koala bear on board the ship?  :teddyr:

My wife and I went to the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics (mens and womens) show when they were on tour after the last olympics.  It was basically a bunch of gymnastic and dance routines set to pop music.
