Well, over the weekend my mother-in-law gave us a present of a DVD player so my days of resistance are over.  Accordingly, I just came back from Sony Virgin Megastore in Times Square here in New York (yes, I know, feeding the corporate megabeast and all that but they DO have the best for-sale DVD/video selection in the city) and bought my first batch of DVDs -- all B- and bad movies and not a Hollywood classic in the bunch:

MST:  Crawling Hand
MST:  Wild World of Batwoman
MST:  Hellcats
[we have all these on video but I bought the DVDs for the uncut originals]

Hercules in New York (for the wife....) (with the Arnold soundtrack and the dubbed soundtrack)

Mighty Gorga/One MIllion AC/DC
Kiss Me Quick/Night on Bare Mountain (a couple of goofy-looking Something Weird Video double features)

Well, I can't wait!

I know I'm late to the DVD party but if you remember what were your first "bad movie/cult" DVD purchases?

raj

The Prisoner (first set).
Blade Runner (director's cut)

Vermin Boy

Plan 9 was the second DVD I bought (the first was Mystery Men, which I suppose could be cult a few years down the road).

-Vermin Boy

My site: The Vermin Cave
My band: The Demons of Stupidity
?????: ?????

The Burgomaster

The Kiss Me Quick/House on Bare Mountain DVD is great! I bought it a few months ago.

As for my first DVDs?

I bought 2 the day I got my first DVD player. They were:

* HOODLUM
* THE ARRIVAL

(Hey, give me a break . . . when I bought my first DVD player, there were probably only about 50 titles available).

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

One Million AC/DC is pretty darn painful.  The disc is worth it for "Mighty Gorga," but beware that co-feature.

One DVD that I have to recommend is "The Thing."  (If you like the movie.)  This is a must have disc for all the extras, which are pretty darn cool.

Welcome to the world of spending way too much money on movies.
