Another long-term phobia of mine (well, sort of a phobia) is that since I was very little I have had a certainty that I was going to die when I was twenty-nine years old---probably die violently, and Lord knows I've taken my share of chances over the years. As long as I can remember it's been there, in the back of my mind, almost like keeping aware in your thoughts of an appointment you have. People have told me to quit thinking that way or I might make it self-fulfilling, but...shrug. In any case, only thirty-three more days for fate to take its shot at me or miss its chance. :tongueout: On the flip side, I bet if I don't die this year, I'll live to be old in the extreme.

I've always had the strong feeling that I am going to die when I'm 30. Ah, well only 8 more years of endless stress to put up with...

QuoteMen can pull off bald, women can't.

You know a bald women isn't always a bad thing.  :teddyr:

I thought the girl in THX 1138 was kinda sexy, as was Anne Lennox back in her shaved head days. I generally like longer hair, , but some women can pull off short hair.

Now how did I not notice this part of the conversation at the time?

Personally, I think bald women look great. I'm sort of the opposite of A.J. Bauer in that regard. In case anyone wondered about my fascination with fetishes and/or Persis Khambatta. :teddyr:

I have a phobia of stuff that can kill me.

Oh, and monsters.

Actually, that reminds me of a story. It's a little messed up and may offend the Christian members of the board, but here goes.

I had a friend in my senior year of high school, and the two of us went to a Halloween event that, unbeknownst to us, was put on by a Christian youth organization who had passed flyers around the campus. Anyway, we get there, and at some point in the evening the people running the party pulled everybody inside and it turned into a sermon to try and convert people. The whole premise was that everybody was asked about what scares them, and in the end it was going to become how accepting Jesus would remove our fears, etc. Once I realized what was going on, I just sort of tried to stay under the radar and wait for it to be over. My friend, on the other hand, looked upon it as an opportunity for comedy.

People were asked what scared them and lots of stuff like death, and mostly teen drama crap kept coming up. Once it got around to my friend he blurted out "monsters!"

There were some nervous chuckles, including from the guy running the event, and then he said "okay, seriously, what really scares you?"

With a perfectly straight face my friend says "Seriously. Monsters. Especially the ones under the bed." He played it so straight, and it was such an uncomfortable situation. The guy running things had no choice but to deal with it. There was this look on his face where he didn't know what do say because he suspected it was a joke, but my friend played it so straight that I think the guy just didn't know what to believe. I was sitting right next to him, very uncomfortable myself, because I knew flat-out it was a joke and didn't know if I should laugh to try and relieve the tension or what.

The guy just kind of uncomfortably said something like "yeah, monsters. That can be very scary. And what about you?" He was talking to me of course.

The thought flashed in my brain for a split second to say something like "Yeah, I'm with him. Monsters really scare me too." But it was such an uncomfortable situation that I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I was uncomfortable enough already trying to figure out what I was going to say. I ended up saying something lame and typical just to keep things moving. Once things moved past us I looked over at him and his eyes were just beaming. That was the kind of guy he was. He looked at uncomfortable situations as entertainment.

Okay, sorry for the sidestep. Back to you regular programming.

Flick James, your story reminds me of a shaggy-dog monologue I've been trying to pull on people for years, but I can never get through it without cracking up.

Basically I start off with the "I had a rough night last night. You know one of those nights when you can't get to sleep and you start to evaluate everything in your life."

Then you basically have to draw people in with an intense confessional before you admit to them that you realize there's only one thing in this life that really scares you.

Werewolves.

I can get through half of it before I start laughing. It tears me apart, because it's such a killer punchline.

Oh well, one of these days.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

I used to be afraid of just about everything when I was younger.. especially static electricity.  I would be afraid to open a door (especially a car door).  And to touch a metal stereo system knob in a carpeted living room or den was nearly traumatic for me.
