Here's a clue. He's had very few roles in which you see his face.

LOL - my first impression was that he looked like a refugee from The Hilarious House of Frightenstein (those cheekbones!) - but then I convinced myself it was not Billy Van after all...

Not Billy Van, and not Canadian. He's American, and he's been in a lot of movies, although sometimes you might not even realize there's an actor at all.

I know!  That's what is making me crazy (er)   And after such torture, I am sure to feel foolish for not knowing his name right off.  ARGH!

He's not only been voicing popular cartoon characters for over 40 years, he's also provided animal noises for a number of live-action movies.

Is is Frank Welker?

I just confirmed it's Frank Welker. A couple of his characters:

Okay, I'm going to have to come up with a pic, I guess. Stand by.

Yep, Frank Welker, voice of Freddie Jones, Megatron, Doctor Claw, Santa's Little Helper and many, many others.

Pretty amazing list. What originally made me a fan back in the 80s, was learning that Welker voiced multiple characters on a number of shows I liked. He was at least 15 or 16 different Transformers, played Dr. Claw, Brain and Mad Cat on Inspector Gadget, and seemed to pop up in movie credits playing parts I didn't initially realize existed - like Spock's screams in Star Trek III or the monkey's voice in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Frank Welker also played some insanely annoying animal sidekick voices (eg, the kickable little unicorn in the D&D cartoon).  Let us not forget that.

OK I feel better: I would not have come up with his name.  Best I could have done was "that voice guy".

Welker does have one notable role where he actually appears onscreen. He was Don Knotts' best friend in How to Frame a Figg. And he was apparently something of a regular on Dean Martin celebrity roasts, mainly as an impressionist. I didn't even know about him until about 1986 or 87, watching the end credits for Transformers: The Movie and seeing Frank Welker's name next to about nine different characters. Been a fan ever since.

I really like that I can tell my daughter that the guy who voices Fred on Scooby Doo, which premiered before I was born, also does the voice of Curious George.

Um, I don't have a photobucket account and I'm at work and can't seem to get the site to work to sign up. I have a photo but it's just too easy for somebody to see the link and find out who it is. So, if somebody else wants to post a new photo, I'm reliquishing my privilege. Go for it.
