Hey everyone, was cruising through the mall yesterday killing some time while my girlfriend was shopping and I thought I'd stop into the FYE store.  Didn't see anything too out of the ordinary.. but when I stopped on the anime section, I saw this badassed looking DVD package with some samurai looking dude on the cover.  I immediately snatched it up to see what it was about.  The package was called The Complete Daimajin, and apparently had three movies inside.  Much to my (pleasant) surprise, I came home and did a little looking around to find out that it was a Kaiju movie of sorts.  And it wasn't an anime movie, but I'm assuming they had it in the anime section because ADV put it out on DVD?  (But that's just a complete guess, probably wrong, too.)  Automatically, my interest is piqued; not only is the movie a monster movie, but it has samurais in it as well.  That, and it was 24.99 at FYE, which I thought was really cheap for that store.  But then I looked online and saw it cheaper at places like Best Buy and Circuit City.

So here's the thing, is this package worth picking up?  And if so, how available is it?  I went to Circuit City and they didn't have it.. would a place like Best Buy or Media Play have it?  Or would they just have it online?  Basically I'd like to get your guys' perspectives on these movies, and if they're worth picking up or not.  Thanks guys.

fye sucks. but i saw the first damaijin a while back. overall it wasn't too bad. i remember there was a lot of rocks falling, people screaming, running around kinda thing. it's your basic creature-feature from 70's Japan. don't take my opinion to heart though, i'm sure there are many who see more in the films and like them more than i do.

The set is well worth the piddling price, as it's available at a number of net venders for under $20.  The films are a little too similar, but still quite good, and again, you can't beat the price for quite decent widescreen presentations in the original Japanese.  (English subtitles, of course.)

The films center around Daimajin, a giant stone statue that's supposedly the frozen form of a rather vengeful god.  Each movie centers on a warlord mercilessly tormenting some locals.  Various misdeeds occur until Daimajin finally comes to life to crush the miscreants in various gruesome ways.  The attack sequences are pretty great, well worth waiting around for.  The f/x are higher grade Toho stuff.

Again, at around $20 for three films, you can't go wrong.

This set is well worth the price if you like Japanese monster stomping action.

Yeah, I know FYE sucks, but I was surprised they had this set in stock, let alone for a decent price (I was expecting 49.99 or something like that), unless 24.99 is the MSRP.

Well, that makes it nearly unanimous.  I'll go ahead and pick it up.  Just figured I'd get some opinions from my b-movie brethren.  Thanks for the opinions, guys.

You can't go wrong with Daimajin.  (Small note: I've only seen the first film, but that one was extremely good.  A cross between a samurai movie and a Giant monster movie: what could beat that?)

I hate to mention them at at all after what they pulled with Andrew, but Stomp Tokyo has a review of one of the second movie;

Wrath of Daimajin

Thanks for the review link, John, and to everyone else for their input.

I just got the set online for 18 bucks, and that's with shipping.  Same with the Gamera box and the first DVD that comes with it.  Needless to say, I'm pretty psyched.

Thanks again everyone.
