I would have to agree with The Burgomaster on this one.

Those three were pretty bad.

Saturday Night Fever was indeed very well made!!

Saturday Night Fever was horrible. It was obviously made for the Valium/Qualude -cocaine/heroin crowd of the 70's (or those remaining "in the closet" - no offense)

Does Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band count as a disco flick?. It starred the BeeGees and Frampton and the Beatles' music was crucified by all.

Prom Night, while being a good slasher movie, did have a bad disco-prom sequence.

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER is one of the best character studies of the 1970s (and a few other decades, too). Forget whether you like disco or not, the movie is really about a GUY, the disco part is secondary. If you grew up during the 70s (as I did) you can probably appreciate it more. In about 50 years, people will look back on this movie and say, "so that's what it was like during the 70s."

As for the cocaine, heroin stuff . . . sure, there are drug references in the movie (but not a lot). The reality is, cocaine use WAS a part of the disco scene. But let's not restrict drug use to the 70s. Drugs are still in use today (or at least they were the last time I read a newspoaper . . . )

"In the closet?" I don't have any idea how SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER relates to people being "in the closet." The film is a bunch of heterosexual guys. There is one brief scene with homosexuals, which is a very ANTI homosexual scene. So I don't see how "the closet" has any relevance here.

The movie was generally a critical success, as well as a box office success, and even got a few Oscar nominations. Whether or not you like the music, or the fashions, or the subject matter, it is still an excellent look at a guy transitioning from a teenager to a man.
